I'm looking for an app that I can use to track visits to the gym, in the same way that I use Strava for running and cycling.
So something simple that I can record what I've done, when, and the weights or time. Not to fussed about the social side of it.
Any suggestions?
Does the built in Fitness App allow this?
not a gym user, so never checked
I use liftosaur for weights. Pretty simple whilst being comprehensive too. Nice interface and a very active developer even for free (which 90% of the app and all the useful stuff is). If you are techy / codey then you'll get even more out of it.
Lads I work with use ‘Hevy’ which also uploads to Strava
If you want pure weights then StrongLifts but Strava can record gym visits.
I use Strava. Well strictly speaking I use my Apple Watch to record a workout that sends it to Strava.
I use hevy, you can create workouts online (which I find much easier than doing on a phone), for each exercise you can set your desired weights, reps and rest time etc. When you are doing your workout you don't need to do the exercises in the order you planned, which is good if you use a public gym and the equipment you want is occupied by someone else, or you just fancy changing stuff up un the fly, and you can easily sub in different exercises.
You can only record heart rate on it with an apple watch, it won't pair with a heart rate strap. From what I can see strava is the opposite, it only records heart rate, there is no option to record which exercise, sets and reps.
I just had a look at hevy and it seems to be designed such that your routine is XXXYYYZZZ and not XYZXYZXYZ. Have I missed something that allows a circuit to be repeated easily (rather than a single exercise)?
Maybe all gym rats only do XXXYYYZZZ because they know if they ever leave station X they won't get back on because some guy is sitting there looking at his phone between sets and won't share...
Of course I can just build XYZXYZXYZ...but that's clunky and stupid. Or maybe I just missed a big fat repeat button that's sitting in front of my face!
edit: ok a bit of googling confirms that this relatively sophisticated app does not contain the concept of a weights circuit *at all*....is that just something that people don't do any more (other than those asking about the nonexistent feature, that is)? I suddenly feel very old and out of fashion.
I use the free StrengthLog app on Android to record the actual exercises and weights/reps. I assume there is an Apple version.
i used to us a free wendler 3-2-1 app which was used for actually creating and recording a workout program, ie guidance... increasing load over time, and it worked.

For circuits you would use supersets, I am not sure if this link will work so you can view one of my routines. You set up the exercises you want, and the number of sets, and then you join them as a superset, so when you complete the first set of the first exercise, it moves to the first set of the second exercise rather than the second set of the first. I just add a rest timer to the last exercise in the circuit, then start the second set....

might have meant 5-3-1 ....
Thanks all.
Hevy looks interesting, as does Strong. Will have a play with them both.
commenting on above, i never did supersets.. id stick to one exercise before moving to the next. The Wendler programme would have you start with warm up sets, working up to the final 5/3/1 rep on that exercise, then on to the next. There was actually only 2 exercises per session, with optional side quests.. but doing the primary 2 was 45 minutes worth, and enough to make you sweat and fatigued
Another Hevy user here.
Supersets in hevy doesn't seem helpful, there's no way to repeat the superset other than to just put it all in again. All it does is skip the rests between exercises from what I can see (which isn't particularly what I wanted anyway, not that I care much about timing stuff).
Strengthlog seems to do what I want though, so thanks to MCTD for that!
I use the free version of "Strong" which means you can have (I think) 3x saved workouts vs unlimited with Pro which is fine with me.
Very intuitive and handy features like substituting exercises if the gym is busy/you fancy a change is easy to do and when you finish the workout you can choose whether to update the workout template for next time, or revert to original.
It lays out the whole workout and you can tick off individual sets in any sequence so if you want to do the first set of each exercise, then the second of each that's just as easy to do as going through one exercise at a time.
I use Strong, i paid a couple of quid for the app over 10 years ago which means i get lifetime pro for free.
The interface is far better than any ive seen down the gym, but not sure I'd pay a fiver a month for it.
