I've got a 3G, and a workmate has just got a 3Gs, and his is noticably quicker, even with a normal Edge connection like we have out here in the sticks. I've got another year to go, which will bring me to upgrade time when the next version is released, so a 64Gb iPhone anyone? Check out macrumors.com; they've just put up some speed tests on the 3G, 3Gs, Android and Palm Pre, and the 3Gs wee's in all the others' shoes, being only a little slower than the benchmark iMac!
The video is pretty nifty, too.

my 3gs vs my g/f 3g - there noticable stutter in games on her's, though it's livable with, it's not something I even see on mine.
Rumor has it the next gen of games this 'problem' will be made even worse as the game as designer to suit the faster 3gs.

But if game aren't you thing I doubt you'd even notice the difference in day to day use.

i noticed my 3g after the OS3 update was really slow at opening messages, emails and apps than prior to the update. Now have a 3GS and it so much quicker at everything. the voice control is good. the volume control on the headphones is a god send.

Compared my 2G to a client's 3GS yesterday. Speed of rendering (not downloading) web pages is much improved. Just going between apps is also a *lot* quicker and smoother.
