Whenever I listen to the radio on my iPad it frequently just stops and then comes back at random or just decides to pack up and go home, refusing to play at all.
I am connecting via a BT router which must be all of 10 foot away, no more. Often there are no other devices using up the bandwidth so I guess it can't be that.
I am on iOS8 but this happened on iOS7 too so I am sure the operating system isn't at fault.
If I look at the screen I get the icon that looks like the buffering one. Sometimes there is a message telling me the app (BBC radio) is having an issue.
Is this a common problem, is it likely to be the App or the rubbish broadband? (The broadband is running at a massive 3mb but that is as good as it gets round here. It is generally stable but will periodically need rebooting.
It happens all the time using the iPlayer Radio app, sometimes just shutting down for minutes at a time, sometimes repeating what has already been broadcast, and it's not always down to shonky O2 network issues, like just dropping out of 3G into Edge. I think it must be something affecting the Beeb's own data feed.
A friend of mine who lives out in the country near Castle Combe was complaining bitterly about losing all her BBC radio stations on her DAB radio, so I think there may be a wider issue here.
Thanks...at least I can tell SWMBO that I haven't screwed up somehow! :o)
Could you try another internet radio app to see if it performs the same? Might help diagnose whether it's the app or the connection?
I use TuneIn radio.
I had 6Music on in the car on my way home tonight, and it suddenly dropped out for thirty seconds or so, just like on my phone, but that was on my Kenwood radio.
I use the TuneIn radio app too. It's been very reliable for me with only the occasional drop-out.
Thought I'd update this, I tried using Tunein Radio on the phone today, instead of the Beeb's iPlayer Radio app, and I only had one signal droppage all day, lasting about ten-fifteen seconds! I'll keep using it for a while, but it certainly looks like it's the Beeb's shonky app not streaming properly and buffering or just giving up in a huff.
Shame, I like the ability to playlist tracks, but it's been getting increasingly irritating, sometimes the dropouts are longer than the bits of radio in between!
