My iPad 2 I'd on its last legs in terms of very poor performance do considering a replacement.
Seems the air 2 might be good, should I consider any others?
Thanks.
I replaced my 2 with a Pro 9.7" and am very impressed so far. Not cheap mind you.
My 3 is definitely starting to show its age, and a new one required sooner or later.
I'm waiting to see what gets announced in March.
Whatever, any replacement will be significantly lighter, and a hell of a lot faster, with more storage.
I went from a 1 to an Air 2 a few years ago now (2?). IMO that's the one to get.
Mrs TiRed went from iPad2 to an Air 2. Loves the improvement in speed. I have a Mini 4, which I prefer the form factor.
The in-laws love the handed down iPad2 as well.
Following on from this where to buy; I imagine Apple Store might be quite expensive.

I've yet to find anywhere that discounts any Apple products, certainly not a significant discount anyway. Best I found was getting it from somewhere that I could get some cash back on Quidco or the like.
I bought my iPad 2 some years back from the Apple refurb store.
Only recently replaced it with an Air 2, and the old one was restored and given to my mum with minimal software on.
She only uses it for basic games and web browsing and it is working superbly.
The air 2 is much faster, lighter and just all round better to use.
The refurb store doesn't have much in at the mo, but always worth a look.

What @lunge says. John Lewis you can get extra guaranty (3yrs ?). I always buy from Apple but admit the iPad I got in New York as it was quite a bit cheaper at the time.
Sounds good, like John Lewis so I'll pop in there. Handy divice for traveling.
Just got an air 2 today to replace my aging mini 1. Very happy with. Same price as a mini 4 but bigger screen and slightly faster. If you know any students take them shopping at apple, 5% off also apple will take your old iPad away for cash. Got £55 for my mini 1 ;))
I went from an iPad 3 (the first Retina one - apparently well known for being the slowest of the lot!) to an iPad Pro 9.7 and the difference is staggering. I used the iPad 3 for watching TV (which it did okay) but for web browsing It was borderline unusable and always a frustrating experience. The new one is a joy to use for pretty much everything - rarely use my laptop now.
I think the air 2 is pretty decent too, though I've never used one. The multitasking facilities are a bit different I think, worth bearing in mind since this is very useful.
This is my major annoyance with the iPad 2 I have and is holding me back getting another Apple product; my iPad for browsing is unusable, whilst a similar notebook I have is as fast as the day I bought it.
Just replaced mine with Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. It's great. Light, great picture and easy to connect with other devices. I would have preferred ios over android but it does have some great features, like merge all 3 of my email addresses into one app
When comparing tablets what are the numbers you should be looking at?
I have a galaxy s4 phone which is miles faster than my 2 year old iPad mini.
I'm assuming the samsung tablet mentioned above would be as quick as my phone. With have 3 iPads and 3 iPhones which are all getting on a bit and all have slowed down whereas my phone just keeps on rocking.
Plus, I'm always reaching for the back button on my iPad.

Whilst I suspect there is an element of that, my iPad 3 was always a bit slow for web browsing, even when new.
