I'm rubbish at crypt clues.. so how's about how I got it, by mistake trying to identify the quote under the beer taps & yes to your second question (I'd never heard of it).

😂 I thought at first that when I saw the quote on the bar but didn't type it in, as I corrected myself!

I've tried the main ones from American Graffiti but they don't work, maybe I need to keep going down the list....

Edit: Bloody hell! The director!!

Got them all now though, woo hoo!

Edit: Bloody hell! The director!!

My thoughts exactly.

I've just completed it with the 6 Rings but took forever because that one seems to need a specific uppercase description.

I’m rubbish at crypt clues

Often the only way if the answer is someone who is no longer alive.

5 left to get...haven't worked out where the clues are but convinced the beer mats are still hiding some answers - I've 3 of them but can't work out the others. The 6 beer pumps have 1 answered and I can't see what the other 5 pump handles relate to but ESB and London Pride could be clues, but are not hitting anything in my thick skull!

If that is a clue, it isn't obvious enough for me...finally got the coffee cup thing...I knew it was a clue but took a terrible song on the radio to get me the connection.

That was the last one I got and had me head scratching for yonks, but when you get it's blatantly obvious. There's nothing cryptic or clever about the clue.  It's a name.

Read this thread many times and still stuck on the wooden X and the cocktail... I must be missing something obvious!

I must be missing something obvious!

You are!

The Cocktail has nothing to do with it's colour - it is tenuous yet obvious, like a badly fitting schuh.

X marks the spot in a SW county where a wayward fast bowler might be found. If not consult the Marshall. (hope you're into cricket).

Stuck on a couple:
1. Broomstick - tried all obvious connections with Harry Potter and no joy
2. HARPO on the chalk board

Because Harpo didn't talk, he could easily be construed as a bit....

Broomstick - the pen is mightier than the wand, or the broomstick for that matter.

Then you must no have tried them all. Its not an actor or character.

I seem to be the only person in the world still not able to get the milk and reigns. I'm on 72 and little chance of budging.

It could be worse, you could end up walking like him...

Thanks. got the Harry Potter one now that I removed the space between the initials!
Also stuck on the sale one.

The milk and reigns are related to a film quote

What does the ticket tell you? Read the whole ticket closely.

Okay, got the milk one now but I honestly had no idea he was associated with milk in any way!

It's a quote from a film that rang a very faint bell with me.

X is still escaping me...I don't know anything about cricket so no help there and my google skills return some cricket names that I don't know and the system doesn't accept...mildly annoying I've got 1 left but I really need to stop...this has been winding me up for the last 3 days now...I've got other things to get too involved with!

Hahaha...blooming hate these as I never get them and then get wound up that I can't!

The answer is nothing to do with cricket.  The clue is half of the answer and a pretty obvious one, not cryptic at all.  Don't overthink it.

Think the list of clues might have one clue twice (1 x bag and 1 x handbag). Replace bag with 1 x glasses ?

owenh could I just ask you which 'glasses' you mean?

I have got 79 and have everything on the list (including 2 on the William picture) but I'm still one short and can't find a clue for it.

Got the 2 clues on the phone? And the 2 clues on the painting to the left of the clue?

Dick Barton - sorry I don't know how to quote a post.

Yes I've got those, and I've been through every single one on the list and got them all, although they had quoted the bag twice so it's only 79.

I know that someone said that the 'weather' on the light was 2 clues, but I think it's only one.

Only 1 for me...in the lower left section - from the maths symbols down and from big dog towards left edge - how many have you got?
Including the Puggy and boxes but not the wee bird about the math symbols.
I've 17 in that area.
Got the 2 top hats (each 1 a clue)?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'puggy' but yes, I've got 17 in the area you describe.

I really appreciate your help, but please don't put yourself out.

If I have time tomorrow, I'll go through all 79 one by one and compare them with the list shown on here. I know that there are some quirky things with the ifour site re spellings and typos, but as long as you get a yellow dot you know it's been registered

Fruit machine

If I have time tomorrow, I’ll go through all 79 one by one and compare them with the list shown on here.

That list only adds up to 78 (79 with the extra William)

could I just ask you which ‘glasses’ you mean?

Theres the pane of glass and the theres a pair of sunglass next to the Bee and C

Answer to saucemerlin: you need to really stare at the pane of glass and you should see, very faintly in grey, the outline of the ears of a famous cartoon character. The answer is the name of the creator of this character.
