@stevextc - I could cut that out on the vinyl cutter for you. I have yellow, black or white laying around but could get other colours if you're interested.

Wow, that would be super cool....
This is a first pass... his fussyness hasn't seen it yet and he's a far better artist than I am..
The plan (such as there was any this morning) was I was going to print the black onto a clear sticky sheet then on one bike stick this to a copper base (2" slug tape) and the other an aluminium one (3" underfloor insulation tape). [he's got a thing for the copper components at the moment but can't stuck that on raw alum frame] Then stick helitape over the lot...

Vinyl sounds pretty good... but how's it work (honestly not a clue)? Can you cut the insides cos I'm going to have a sod with the whiskers any manual way...?

Having sellotaped it to a headtube I reckon I will make it less tall so the text follows the chainring instead...

Stevextc, I'll cut the image out of vinyl, weed it so that only the black bits are left and put low tack transfer tape on it.

All you would have to do is peel the backing off, put it on the bike where you want it and peel the transfer tape off. It'll leave the cut vinyl image stuck to the headtube.

I might struggle to cut the whiskers as they are quite thin. Will give it a go onblack tonight off one of the images above and see how it goes. I can get copper or chrome coloured vinyl off amazon if you want a different colour.

@jonm81

Sounds good, he unexpectedly approved of the "artwork" and likes the 2nd one even more.
I can make the whiskers a bit thicker ...
what do you need it terms of a file?

I just need to borrow the kids school iPad with pencil thing as its starting to suck using a mouse and his iPad is probably 10x faster than my 10yr old PC.

I'm playing at a running ferret at the moment for the top tube... but my computer keeps crashing so hoping to borrow the iPad.

I snipped the image from Instagram so probably not the best quality but on the hobby machine I have it really struggled with the fine details of the ferret face. The rest came out ok though. I might be able to improve it with a better file. The software I have supports the usual image file types (PNG, JPG, BMP, GIF, and TIF)

This was 60mm by 77.5mm

For size on a spare 44mm head tube

I can definitely do you a big one (up to A4 size) to use as a sticker.

Yeah DezB, it's a 1970 MG BGT I spent 5 years restoring for our wedding in 2012. I had to replace about 70% of the body shell and it was the first car I painted. The engine has been bored from a 1.8 to a 2.2L and tuned to give 129hp compared to the 64hp from the factory. Here it is on a trip up north.

Lovely motor. Would bring tears to me ol' mum's eyes - she had an E reg (1967?) through our childhood, which is why I recognised it. 🙂 Yours sounds superb.
Great zebra too 😀

Thanks. I ended up painting it grey as my dad had a Grampian grey one and I found a photo of him at about my age with the car in Spain.

The Zebra looks better in the picture than in person but it turned out better than I thought.

anyhoo....
jonm81

it’s a 1970 MG BGT

I spent 5yrs of my teens helping do up a TC.
Main benefit was most of the bodywork was plywood.

anyhoo....

really struggled with the fine details of the ferret face

I can probably just redo those bits and make things a bit thicker.
All the different elements are actually vector files so I can make any raster output at whatever resolution.

Stevextc - I would love a TC. I had a chance to get a MG A twin cam once but couldn't afford it at the time. I've regretted missing that one for years.

For the head badge, I can cut down to 0.25mm but it is really difficult to weed out the excess vinyl. If possible keeping features to a minimum thickness of 0.4mm would work. The free silhouette studio software only allows import of jpg, tif, etc. If you could send me one in that format I'll have another go at cutting it.

I'm a bit stuck with doing ferrets at the moment .. as I can't draw anything without a purpose.
So now looking at a Toptube sticker.

Ill upload into google photo's so I can make it big and you can make it smaller as required.
I'm hoping for some transparent printable stuff to be delivered monday....

I really enjoy this thread, there's a lot of talented people here.

Any recommendations for a beginners sketch book? I'm tempted to get the pencils out and draw something badly

I use Seawhite 140gsm Cartridge paper from Hobbycraft. It comes as a 50 sheet pad rather than a sketchbook. It's only £6 but really nice paper.

Also use Seawhite (in the form of sketchbooks)

For pen and wash stuff I buy basic-grade +300gsm watercolour paper online

Then put 15-20 same-size sheets in a pile on top a piece of backing-card.

Then hold all together with four to six bulldog clips.

Then paint all four edges with Copydex glue.

It makes a decent sketching/painting block and stops the paper cockling when doing washes. Always leave a little 1cm gap in the glue so you can detach the top sheet by inserting a palette knife and skimming around.

Cover’s fallen off my Inktober pad so dunno what it is. I really like the plotter paper i got from work for drawing with the pens though - shinier finish, doesnt soak up the ink so much. Set of unbranded needle pens I got from ebay are still going well.

Thanks. The black is just a cheap Faber-Castell brush pen. It seems to have a very black ink in it.
