The BBC presenter Jeremy Vine has published video footage showing a driver threatening to knock him out and allegedly assaulting him while he was on his bicycle.Vine said the incident took place while he was commuting through Kensington, west London, on Friday. The Metropolitan police said it had no record of an incident being reported.

Reckon someone is going to be getting a visit from the plod tomorrow.
Does he pay road tax?
A lot of parked cars cluttering up the street
And a staggering amount of money sitting idle
Huge waste of resources
Mixed emotions. No cyclist should face that, but it is Jeremy Vine....
Are you sure it's because he's a cyclist?
take note #cyclistlivesmatter !
I wonder if she thinks she is somehow more important than poor impoverished cyclists that dont pay any road tax ..oops thats someone else.
"you lot really **** me off!" - interesting view
As above, as someone who switches off radio 2 each lunchtime, giving Jeremy [s]Kyle[/s] Vine a kicking is not in itself a crime.
On a tangent, I can't help feeling that if this is a Police matter, that video should not be in the public domain until any case has been finalised one way or the other.
He didn't even pull out the big "Don't you know who I am?" card
Apparently the car isn't taxed....
Apparently the car isn't taxed....
Or insured then...
So many things he could have done to avoid this plus we really don't know before this short clip.
Vine is a massive troll. Best thing we can do is ignore him and hope he goes away.
then that begs the question who did the lady get her driving license from?
To be fair that's about par for the course from a Vauxhall Corsa driver
Yup DVLA website says it's untaxed
So many things he could have done to avoid this plus we really don't know before this short clip.
+1 trouble is he has to communicate with idiots in his day job so probably didn't realise he could just ignore this one and move over to the left after the parked cars instead of stopping in the middle of the road
Weetabix or Kellogs, cheekymonkey.
Another one torn here..
Like has already been said.. It is Jeremy Vine..
Thinking on this, there's a pattern here, isn't there..
TJ, Corbyn, Clarkson, Vine.....
All tend to get people wond up. 🙄
Yup DVLA website says it's untaxed
😀
email that to Vine, he'll love it
Apparently the car isn't taxed....Or insured then...
Wrong way round, you can insure a car without tax, how else would you drive it to an IVA or insure it TPFT whilst SORN?
So many things he could have done to avoid
Go on then. Enlighten us

Of course, and the insurance co will pay out if an untaxed car is involved in an accident. I think not.
Tax has no bearing on insurance cover.
Move along, nothing to see there.

Why wouldn't they?
Unless she has some unusual clause in her insurance that makes tax a requirement then tax has no bearing on the insurance (but you have to have insurance in place to get taxed).
So many things he could have done to avoid this
What things?
"Don't assault me!" Haha what a pussy.
"Don't assault me!" Haha what a pussy.
You're in Year 9, right?
I've made the mistake of replying to some of the wrong people on the Internet who have posted on the youtube videos 🙁
If the car is not taxed then it shouldn't legally be on the road, so I can't see an insurance policy accepting that it should be covering that.
Go on then. Enlighten us
By driving a car everywhere like a normal person instead of riding a bike like a penniless fool.
and thats just to start with...
You can get insurance without "tax" (VED).
You cannot get tax without insurance.
Yes she should not be runing out of her car ranting at him but I'm not sure I'd ride off and keep that driver behind me. When confronted with people as angry and unpredictable as that I'd rather they were far away from me. I realise there was parked cars but...
Whatever you think of Jeremy Vine, no cyclist deserves this sort of treatment from such a foul mouthed and unsavory individual. Fingers crossed the police will throw the book at her, attempted assault, no tax, no insurance. Hopefully a large ban coming her way.

So how did I legally drive my kit car to it's MOT this morning? Because, so long as it's insured, you can drive it (to a booked MOT). Now I've got the MOT I can tax it. I couldn't yesterday.
So how did I legally drive my kit car to it's MOT this morning
because that is one of the 'exemptions' to requiring tax.
but I think it IS insured anyway.
Some of the replies on here just support my comment on the other thread that really you need to educate or regulate the stupid, words on the web won't make simpletons think like fully fledged humans.

Can we just put this to bed? Cougar is correct. Insurance cover is not dependent on tax.

You're 100% certain that insurance companies won't do whatever they can to invalidate the insurance then. You [s]are more naive[/s] have more faith in them than I do. Good luck.
I feel the thread has drifted somewhat.
To those saying "but it it's Vine" on the basis of his radio show: given who they replace him with, the worst thing Vine has ever done is not be on the radio.
You are insured in liability to others btw but if you dont keep the vehicle road worthy the insurer could look to recover their costs from you( thats you house) and your own property( the car) wont be covered and you could also face legal charges( thats your job).
Not that thats got anything really to do with that case which is just about an obnoxious scumbag abusing and theatening another person.
If you cant see that your as bad as them.

You're not wrong, but being on the radio comes a very close second.
It is like saying bad aids is good, because the alternative is Vanessa Feltz.
Just perhaps she had had a row with her manager/lover/shop worker /or anyone else, or perhaps she was in a rush to get to an interview for a new job, or to retax her car, etc etc etc.
Who knows or really cares, but in the next few days she will feature in the tabloids telling her story, be on breakfast tv, telling her story, and probably be on the JV show telling her story and making up with Mr Vine, followed by being a celebrity on Big Brother, and possibly a star in a reasonably priced car on Top Gear, as is the media today.
Just because he can be a bit annoying (*) doesn't mean he deserves to be run down just so that someone can shave ten seconds off the time to the next set of traffic lights. Victim blaming is not a pretty sight.

You'd better go and retune now then, before it's too late.
Not wanting to pick at an ugly scab, but in the pre-ANPR, computerised integrated records days, plod would very much take absence of a valid tax disc as an indicator of likely lack of insurance. I can't see why that would no longer be a reasonable suspicion tbh.
Precisely because insurance is required to tax.
Got to wonder why exactly he stopped there and what was he wittering on about car widths, if it was the internet he'd be banned for trolling. He is a dick and that pathetic 'don't assault me' plea what did he think she was going to do? Bitch slap him?
Yes she should not be runing out of her car...
She was runing? Burn the witch!!!!!
I think after the first altercation she would probably murder him.! She said so herself and it would be his fault she had to do it. Followed by the last gesture of popping a cap in his ass before she drove off.
Serious anger issues to white middle class london bike riders who are on the radio and have a head cam.
s he wittering on about car widths
I think he meant door widths - if you took a doors width from either side that puts hims in the middle, so fair enough and as recommended.
'don't assault me' plea
I think he was trying to defuse the situation - if he had been aggressive back it might have escalated.
she should go to jail for that hair and those shoes alone!
you lot piss me off
what, radio 2 presenters?
(*) You could always listen to R4.

what I like most about radio 4 is i have been a fan for about 25 years and i am still younger than the average audience listener[55]...its like an age than can never ever be caught up with, like the retirement age under the tories 😉
....reaching marks the start f the long slow walk off the mortal coil
re the incident he was correct and she was nuts but i would have let her past at the beeping mainly because who wants a nutter like that behind you
She really needs to calm down and he really knew he was going to release it on social media
Unless you're disabled or making deliveries, why on earth would you actually need a car in London?
Compared to Glasgow it hardly rains and the public transport workers aren't on strike at the mo.
And she seems very attached to her motor. But it's a different story when the time comes to recycle it...
The level of stupidity you would need to possess to believe that cyclists are the reason you can't drive anywhere in London is really quite staggering. This particular individual is a moron and needs to be dealt with. I'd throw the book at the lady involved too.
Take Jeremy Vine out of the equation for a moment, is it still ok to behave that way towards a cyclist?
Clearly she's a nutter and angry, but then, she's driving a corsa. I drive Scenic and have almost pathological self loathing whilst driving in it, god knows how she must feel.....
Take Jeremy Vine out
Oh yes please, *pretty* please!
Can you blame him though? Embarrassing and/or bringing these people to the attention of the police is the only weapon we, as cyclists, really have against the army of cyclist hating loons out there.and he really knew he was going to release it on social media

Presumably you can also settle the 'is it insured' debate, by checking on a 'database'? 😉
im just watching this with no sound etc. But it appears that hes stopped in the road where he could have moved to the side?
Is that right? If so id see that as being antagonistic.

And the problem is? Should we all jump out of the way of thise who bully and threaten?
That's one angry lass in the car, she did behave outrageously. The point about it being Jeremy Vine is moot, she obviously had no idea who this dude was, it's not like walking up to Nigel Farage in the street and telling him he's a colossal wrister.
Hopefully plod will have a quiet word and explain why such behaviour is out of order.
And the problem is? Should we all jump out of the way of thise who bully and threaten?
no but if somone who is clearly angry is being held up by you then its in everyones best interests to move if possible.
I dont see the point in standing your ground. Its like an elephant running towards you. Youd hope it would stop but theres a chance it wont. lessen the risk to yourself and others tbh?
i seem to be a bit alone in my opinions on this however as i know plenty of folks who just love to ride infront of cars as its their right... i dont get it.
"Unless you're disabled or making deliveries, why on earth would you actually need a car in London?"
I ask this very question every time I see people getting pissed off when stuck in traffic jams in town. I've even asked people, 'why don't you get a bike instead?'. That tends not to go down too well with most folk. 😆
Because you don't understand; they need their car, you see? It's absolutely essential. There's no way they could live their lives without it. Etc etc etc. And even when you've dismantled all their 'arguments', and reduced them to blubbering 'but but but', they still cannot see past their brainwashing. We need to be working on people from a much younger age, re car ownership and use, or we'll just see more behaviour of this kind, sadly.
"no but if somone who is clearly angry is being held up by you then its in everyones best interests to move if possible."
People like this need to understand that they aren't the centre of the universe, and that their behaviour needs to change. Why the **** should the cyclist get out of her way? A Dutch/Danish etc driver wouldn't have this attitude. It's all about education. This woman is clearly ignorant and selfish, and should be shown why her behaviour is anti-social and wrong. Just letting her by would do absolutely nothing to change this.
Personally, I think such behaviour should be met with a mandatory instant driving ban, say for 6 months, rising with frequency of offences. If you behaved so aggressively in any other situation, you'd face arrest, charge and conviction for a crime. So why are drivers continually getting away with such behaviour?
I'd question why he felt the need to move round to the left of the Corsa at the junction towards the end of the video (the "gun" part). If someone had behaved like that towards me I would have stayed behind and let them go on their way without further antagonising them.
I'd agree with the instant bans though. Make people realise that driving isn't a right, it's a privilege and should be treated as one.
I'd agree with the instant bans though. Make people realise that driving isn't a right, it's a privilege and should be treated as one.
This.
Short, inconvenient bans, with no possible exceptions, maybe two weeks, and a legal requirement for your employer to keep your job for you.
You might have to pay for taxis, or take unpaid leave if you can't get to work. You might then learn that a license to use the road is worth keeping.
Has the lady been on daytime telly yet telling "her story" and how she is the real victim in all this?
She can now be the poster girl for ****wits everywhere.
Hopefully plod will have a quiet word and explain why such behaviour is out of order.
Really? Hopefully they'll do do a little bit more than that. Should be a charge for Assault (she pushed and kicked him), Dangerous Driving (she drove at him deliberately). There *should* be a driving ban and retest as she's clearly ill equipped mentally to drive a vehicle in a city around vulnerable road users (And all driving bans should come with a suspended prison sentence so that there is no need for a return to court if someone drives while banned)
Almost certainly she'll get a slap on the wrist and a 'the publicity is punishment enough'.
That he caught her up at the next junction (as inevitably happens as average speed of a bike across London is higher than a car) shows just how futile and unnecessary all her 'must get in front' behaviour was in the first place.
He should have chinned her.
I just had a look at some of the responses to the video on Youtube. No matter who's right or wrong, there's some nasty, aggressively racist nonsense getting thrown around.
Left me feeling a bit sad for people to be honest. 🙁

Silly cah.
Probably late for a drive by in the hood or whatever it is "you people" do at weekends....
What I dont understand is, how did she expect to get past him. Its a narrow road with parked cars either side, even if he'd stopped and moved over the moment she beeped at him, she STILL wouldn't have been able to pass him.

If you upload a video to youtube you get a choice as to whether or not you want to activate comments - which is fine. But a service I really wish youtube would offer is the ability for viewers (rather than up loaders) to switch off comments for the entire site.

Oh well, that's all right then.
Should you be mown down deliberately by someone who doesn't like you, balance will be restored to the universe.
