Not wanting to pick at an ugly scab, but in the pre-ANPR, computerised integrated records days, plod would very much take absence of a valid tax disc as an indicator of likely lack of insurance. I can't see why that would no longer be a reasonable suspicion tbh.

Precisely because insurance is required to tax.

Got to wonder why exactly he stopped there and what was he wittering on about car widths, if it was the internet he'd be banned for trolling. He is a dick and that pathetic 'don't assault me' plea what did he think she was going to do? Bitch slap him?

I think after the first altercation she would probably murder him.! She said so herself and it would be his fault she had to do it. Followed by the last gesture of popping a cap in his ass before she drove off.

Serious anger issues to white middle class london bike riders who are on the radio and have a head cam.

s he wittering on about car widths

I think he meant door widths - if you took a doors width from either side that puts hims in the middle, so fair enough and as recommended.

'don't assault me' plea

I think he was trying to defuse the situation - if he had been aggressive back it might have escalated.
(*) You could always listen to R4.
I am not dead yet.

what I like most about radio 4 is i have been a fan for about 25 years and i am still younger than the average audience listener[55]...its like an age than can never ever be caught up with, like the retirement age under the tories 😉
....reaching marks the start f the long slow walk off the mortal coil

re the incident he was correct and she was nuts but i would have let her past at the beeping mainly because who wants a nutter like that behind you

She really needs to calm down and he really knew he was going to release it on social media

Unless you're disabled or making deliveries, why on earth would you actually need a car in London?
Compared to Glasgow it hardly rains and the public transport workers aren't on strike at the mo.

And she seems very attached to her motor. But it's a different story when the time comes to recycle it...

The level of stupidity you would need to possess to believe that cyclists are the reason you can't drive anywhere in London is really quite staggering. This particular individual is a moron and needs to be dealt with. I'd throw the book at the lady involved too.

Take Jeremy Vine out of the equation for a moment, is it still ok to behave that way towards a cyclist?
Clearly she's a nutter and angry, but then, she's driving a corsa. I drive Scenic and have almost pathological self loathing whilst driving in it, god knows how she must feel.....

Can you blame him though? Embarrassing and/or bringing these people to the attention of the police is the only weapon we, as cyclists, really have against the army of cyclist hating loons out there.

im just watching this with no sound etc. But it appears that hes stopped in the road where he could have moved to the side?

Is that right? If so id see that as being antagonistic.

That's one angry lass in the car, she did behave outrageously. The point about it being Jeremy Vine is moot, she obviously had no idea who this dude was, it's not like walking up to Nigel Farage in the street and telling him he's a colossal wrister.

Hopefully plod will have a quiet word and explain why such behaviour is out of order.

no but if somone who is clearly angry is being held up by you then its in everyones best interests to move if possible.

I dont see the point in standing your ground. Its like an elephant running towards you. Youd hope it would stop but theres a chance it wont. lessen the risk to yourself and others tbh?

i seem to be a bit alone in my opinions on this however as i know plenty of folks who just love to ride infront of cars as its their right... i dont get it.

"Unless you're disabled or making deliveries, why on earth would you actually need a car in London?"

I ask this very question every time I see people getting pissed off when stuck in traffic jams in town. I've even asked people, 'why don't you get a bike instead?'. That tends not to go down too well with most folk. 😆

Because you don't understand; they need their car, you see? It's absolutely essential. There's no way they could live their lives without it. Etc etc etc. And even when you've dismantled all their 'arguments', and reduced them to blubbering 'but but but', they still cannot see past their brainwashing. We need to be working on people from a much younger age, re car ownership and use, or we'll just see more behaviour of this kind, sadly.

"no but if somone who is clearly angry is being held up by you then its in everyones best interests to move if possible."

People like this need to understand that they aren't the centre of the universe, and that their behaviour needs to change. Why the **** should the cyclist get out of her way? A Dutch/Danish etc driver wouldn't have this attitude. It's all about education. This woman is clearly ignorant and selfish, and should be shown why her behaviour is anti-social and wrong. Just letting her by would do absolutely nothing to change this.

Personally, I think such behaviour should be met with a mandatory instant driving ban, say for 6 months, rising with frequency of offences. If you behaved so aggressively in any other situation, you'd face arrest, charge and conviction for a crime. So why are drivers continually getting away with such behaviour?

I'd question why he felt the need to move round to the left of the Corsa at the junction towards the end of the video (the "gun" part). If someone had behaved like that towards me I would have stayed behind and let them go on their way without further antagonising them.

I'd agree with the instant bans though. Make people realise that driving isn't a right, it's a privilege and should be treated as one.

This.

Short, inconvenient bans, with no possible exceptions, maybe two weeks, and a legal requirement for your employer to keep your job for you.

You might have to pay for taxis, or take unpaid leave if you can't get to work. You might then learn that a license to use the road is worth keeping.

Really? Hopefully they'll do do a little bit more than that. Should be a charge for Assault (she pushed and kicked him), Dangerous Driving (she drove at him deliberately). There *should* be a driving ban and retest as she's clearly ill equipped mentally to drive a vehicle in a city around vulnerable road users (And all driving bans should come with a suspended prison sentence so that there is no need for a return to court if someone drives while banned)

Almost certainly she'll get a slap on the wrist and a 'the publicity is punishment enough'.

That he caught her up at the next junction (as inevitably happens as average speed of a bike across London is higher than a car) shows just how futile and unnecessary all her 'must get in front' behaviour was in the first place.

I just had a look at some of the responses to the video on Youtube. No matter who's right or wrong, there's some nasty, aggressively racist nonsense getting thrown around.

Left me feeling a bit sad for people to be honest. 🙁

What I dont understand is, how did she expect to get past him. Its a narrow road with parked cars either side, even if he'd stopped and moved over the moment she beeped at him, she STILL wouldn't have been able to pass him.

*beeeeeEEEEEPPP*
"whats the matter?"
"im in a rush, I need to get past you"
"ok, on you go"
*roars past*
*stops at light*
"oh, hello again, that was worthwhile wasn't it?"
🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

If you upload a video to youtube you get a choice as to whether or not you want to activate comments - which is fine. But a service I really wish youtube would offer is the ability for viewers (rather than up loaders) to switch off comments for the entire site.

Oh well, that's all right then.

I think Mr Woppit's comment was based on the woman's use of "I'm sick of you lot", tarring all people on bikes with the same brush.

You think that there's balance in the universe!

What harm was done to Vine? He was spouting off about having to ride 3 feet from a car. There's no rule or law that says that. He's just a bell end spouting the same sort of crap in real life as he does on the radio.

there is guidence saying you should do that - The Highway code says "Leave plenty of room when passing parked vehicles and watch out for doors."

"There's no rule or law that says that."

There's the rule of ****ing Common Sense though!

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2012/jul/24/cyclists-threat-parked-cars

"In London in 2007 cyclists swerving to avoid car doors accounted for 8% of cyclists who were killed or seriously injured. This year a Beckenham cyclist died from head injuries after hitting a car door, the latest of three cyclists to die in London of dooring injuries since 2010."

I ride a minimum 1m or so from any parked car. If some selfish impatient **** behind me can't overtake safely, then **** 'em. They can wait. My safety is far more important than anything else in their lives.

What planet are you on? Bet you'd be the first to whine if someone on a bike scratched your door after being squeezed against it by a passing car.

Yep. In fact, if some impatient **** in a car starts ranting/beeping at me due to my road positioning, it potentially means I've just saved my own life because they wanted to do something dangerous.
