Hope you guys can come along for the ride too.
Hopefully I should now be able to add pictures to the blog as we go, wifi permitting.
interesting blog sir, well done, would be interested in route maps if you have one?
I rode the Divide 10 years ago and its time I did something stupid.
The name Big Al I assume is in Campsie, I only ever befuddled him once when I asked if he could true an old tioga disk drive. ha.
The Divide is on my to do list, maybe next year or the year after if things work out. It's a much bigger commitment time wise, though what I've seen and read of it is really inspiring.
Cheers. post updates here occasionally. My next trip needs to be holiday length such as a hut to hut (Colorado has some good looking routes) or something like this one.
Nice, I lived in Idaho for a year and would love to go again!
Some pics from the ride.
I picked up a cold on the plane and have managed to survive the bonk four days in a row but I'm enjoying every second of the ride. Boblo is flying.
Late this afternoon we met two couples riding in the same direction, we followed their tyre tracks today. A fantastic couple from Washington DC, the second were a couple of guys riding with a ton of stuff. One of them was on a recumbent fat bike that had broken two rear mechs in two days. One of his panniers contained 5 gallons of water!
The heat midday is in the high eighties, our tents froze the other night.

Part of my daily read. 🙂
Keep it up. All the talk of steaks, muffins & egg sarnies is't doing much for my diet!
just caught up on it, sooo very much reminds me of the time I rode the divide route. On that trip we only used two / three hot springs. Happy memories.
good read Peter, as ever.
Billy and the lads are on tour around northumberland, i was talking to them yesterday, and they were asking how you were getting on.
all good....... 8)

We camped in Bear Valley, Idaho last night. What's the worst that could happen?
Rest day blog updates, new and improved with photos.

Brill as usual, love the pictures of the timber frame cabins, some doer upers there:)
Made it!
We got back to Boise yesterday afternoon, and I got the last of my pictures uploaded this morning.
This is an amazing loop full of variety and challenges. There is a ton of climbing, washboard and gravel. It takes you through river cut valleys, open ranch land, high mountain meadows and lakes so clear you can see thirty feet deep into them.
We saw perhaps ten other riders, I'm certain this loop is destined to become a classic. If the GDMBR is too big of a commitment timewise, this is a perfect alternative for a couple of weeks.
Boblo and I are going to rent a car, drive to Portland for a couple of days to catch up with friends then we are going to ride down the coast to San Francisco where we fly home from.

Aye, the whole hunting thing is pretty freaky. Most of the guys we met shoot deer and Elk for food, it really is still a frontier state.
John, the guy who shot the bear had used a baited trap, a forty five gallon drum full of cakes and peanut butter, they used a video camera to follow its feeding patterns, then he shot him. It's hardly sport is it?
What a shocking waste..................of cakes.
Nice pictures. Some big skies.

We drove from Portland down to Crater Lake, which we rode around, then the Mighty Focus got us down to Eureka. We will ride the remaking three hundred miles or so down to Point Reyes Station.
We made it around Idaho, a road ride around Crater Lake and a spin down the California coast through the redwoods, then down old Highway One to Marin.
I've added a link to the pics I've still to add to the blog.

We fly back on Thursday, everyday life will seem second best very quickly.
The blog pages have dates, anyone else think there is a time warp going on....great journey pics by the way:)
I screwed up with the way the dates work over here. I will need to sort that out with CGOAB.
