This is in the corner of my kitchen. I assume it's an old water main...can I just pull it out?

Try a pilot drill and see what comes out of it?

you could try shutting the valve and seeing if something stops working (gas, water, draught beer)

I am assuming the valve is shut...it looks like the old water main going up to the tank in the attic.

Ah well I can just mdf over it.

Oh and I should have filmed myself plumbing in the radiator last week - I CBA draining the system. Quite a lot of water everywhere!

Mihgt be gas, or old central heating . depeends on when your house was built . Looks the same as my mums central heating that was fited in the 50's .
Why did you not think to either box it in or remove it before plastering?

Cos I thought I'd box it in after plastering...and I don't think these things through, I'm a bit of a "have a go" type.

Need to cover current water main on adjacent corner so at least there will be a bit of symmetry

The valve is solid, but pipe makes a hollow sound when tapped 😕

Just looked at the picture again.

Is that blue plastic pipe at the bottom? If so probably water pipe and not gas, shame, and safe to remove. 😉

That looks remarkably like an old gas pipe we have in the cellar

Or it could have been gas piped in Blue alkathene like was done in an entire high rise as discovered when it was to be signed off.

Dont assume anything about the pipe unless you can trace at least one end of it!!
