Dear media,

She's dead. Get over it.

I have.

I think I'll go and ride my bike round the hills all day on her funeral, to avoid it. Its an approach that I use for Royal weddings, Olympic opening ceremonies and any such other pointless guff I'm expected to care about

If she was the incumbent I'd get it, totally.

But the abundance of news, comment and associated over-enthusiastic foolishness over a hugely divisive politician who lost her position in the 90s is tainting my day...

I was getting over a shoulder operation when Diana (Gawd bless her) was murdered by Prince Philip.

2 weeks immobilised and nothing on the TV except that.

just don't listen or watch-- and on the day of the funeral there will be plenty of alternative parties

totally agree.
The amount of media coverage is getting silly. bore off the lot of you.
( I mean the media)
Like the idea of a funeral ride ....... could be Wednesday morning club in the Chilterns. 🙂

I dunno.

The ridiculous pro Thatcherite bias of the coverage so far, BBC newsreaders wearing black, the almost comical disregard of the section of the population who despise her and the sight of her smug face all over the TV makes me wish she'd never been born, rather than wishing she was still alive.

Every time I hear the words 'Thatcher' and 'dead' in the same sentence I do feel ten years younger, though.

No, I'm not celebrating the death of a senile old woman, but I can't deny that the world seems a slightly nicer place today.

State funeral though?
Paid for by taxpayers?

I think a little protest about that might just be in order, tbh.

Zombie Thatcher? Jeez, didn't think anything could be worse than the original but that'd do it

Is there anything else going on today that would be fun to know about? Not North Korea, obviously. Something nice... to restore the imbalance of the force.

Go out and look at some ickle boingy lambs, that'll cheer you up.

If you're a carnivore, it's something to look forward too.
If not, they're still good fun.

When's the funeral?

I find that major sporting and state occasions perfect time for bike rides in the quiet hills.

By all accounts it was bearable, yes. But its a very high risk strategy to put time aside to sit through anything like that. When it comes to that type of thing, what are the comparative hit rates between "quite surprisingly, that was ok!" and "sweet Jesus! There's two hours of my life I'll never get back!" 😉

IIRC I was actually riding Mabie forest that day instead. Result! 😀

Viewing figures for the Thatcher TV specials have been pretty poor - 3 million for the Andrew Marr one on BBC 1 last night. That must be up there with some of the worst viewing they have had on prime time tv.

The thing to do is put the funeral out to tender and go for the cheapest possibe option regardless of quality ..... I'm sure its what she would have wanted , maybe G4S I'm sure they could do a good job of screwing it up

always makes me smile thinking of the muppets hiding outside in case their TV suddenly comes on showing an event they don't want to see....

To escape all the Mrs T related stuff I shall be enjoying the original UK series (remastered) Blu-ray of 'House of Cards' that was released yesterday (ordered last week) and popped through my letterbox this morning. I'm not suggest that there are any parallels between Mrs T and Francis Urqhuart - just that it seems appropriate, alternative viewing in the circumstances.

Have they put a stake through her heart yet, just to make sure she's really dead?

If the BBC had any balls, and hadn't collapsed into this pathetically romanticised, and woefully inacurate version of events, they would repeat this...

[img] [/img]

...in full, one episode after the other, during her funeral, as a reminder how great she really was 🙄

While I find the picture of the ickle bunny hilarious, I am perturbed at the thought of how the scotch pancakes are held in place.
