I was riding up the Wenatchee Valley when some club riders passed me. I caught them at a stop sign and sought a recommendation for breakfast. They were headed to a bakery a few miles away. They would wait on the others while I spun onwards.

Just before I reached the bakery I was over taken on the climb by a guy on a recumbent hand powered trike. We gathered around a table and I was introduced to everyone. The guy on the trike had a gorilla handshake. He was Ed Farrar, Tyler Farrar's father.

He and his wife Cindy told me of their son's tour exploits and how he got to where he is. If that was not inspirational enough, check out Ed's story.

They have Irish ancestry but have longed to visit Scotland, they have an open invitation to the Towers of Moont anytime! A more inspiring family I have not met.

Chance encounters can be great. I've often offered virtual strangers a place to stay if over here - some of my relatives are appalled at the notion. Tyler sounds like a product of nurture + nature.

Bike touring is like that, you never know who you will meet.

Amazing story, not sure how the hell I would deal with something like that, let alone getting back on a bike...

He looks like the kind of man who would appreciate both a good woodpile and a great garden. Hope he makes it out your way!

I think we need to see this repeated though...

I was over taken on the climb by a guy on a recumbent hand powered trike.

😯 - uber niche

It's a lovely part of the world over there. It's a shame I never got out there with my road bike
