Just shows you how finding a subject that fascinates you makes you adjust your targets ans set them high.

How are the rest of the people that returned to uni getting on?

They do 'A*' at university now?

It was all firsts and seconds when I was a student.

The ones that count are still firsts and seconds. The marks that get you to that stage are percents and A* to UF.

I graduated over summer and some modules gave us grades as they weren't allowed to give percentages (go figure) until we had completed the module and done all the assessments. Now I'm doing a masters its pass, fail or distinction...which is quite scary! Got my first assessment that counts toward my end grade on Thursday too!

My Degree is was just Honours or pass - I gota pass but didn't make any difference to how good you are at the job IMHO 🙂 I now got a European Diploma which was just pass or fail. Not heard of the A* - I thought it was just fail, 2-2,2-1,1st (honours).

Congratulations!

I've not exactly returned to uni, but I'm doing a distance-learning top-up degree for my HND, and currently working on my project. I understand what you mean about setting expectations high- I think I'll be disappointed with anything other than a first overall.

The only indication we have of how we're getting on in the units is when we get our results when the unit has finished- this is given as a mark out of 100.

I have 120 marks to achieve my degree, units are worth 10, 20 or 30 marks. Once I've completed the work, the marks are lined up in order, and the mid-point is taken as the overall degree grade. I currently have 50 marks at 70+, and 20 marks at 60+, so presuming I pass (40+) my last two units I am guaranteed a 2:1, I need to get a first (70+) in one of the remaining units in order to get a first overall.

I managed to get 98 in a piece of coursework last year, which I was (obviously) estatic with, unfortunately I didn't do quite so well in the exam for the same unit, so my mark came down to 86- still pretty happy though!

All the best people get a 2:2 degree. Relaxed, but competent.

Indeed - anyway, I've long sussed that Goan is excellent at most things he tries. The rest of us are merely modest.

Goan has only just started his course so is hardly going to be concerned with his degree mark. Think its normal for uni coursework to be graded with As and Bs etc? no excuse for coming on here to moan about how good you are though.

in my experience the better the uni the stingyier they are with the grades, so very high marks might be a sign you are at an old poly... It might be in recognition that really really clever people went to the better uni's (imagine cambridge's alumni) so they are setting the standard

in american uni's even ivy league schools award 90% and up. so different stroke for different folks i guess

lol - it's only my modesty that refrains me from telling the world how wonderful i truly am............

it's got to be a troll.

A* ?

Are you sure it wasn't a typo & they really meant A (with the next level up being C) ?

get a job tax-dodger. Then you can be disappointed for the rest of your life.
