Lone Tree Cafe and the water sports place ? I know a load of swimmers that use that area, but that might be a good bet to say 'found'.

you can find the serial number and Amazon would have that register to an account and email address. You could contact Amazon and try to get them to pass on a message somehow.
I know someone who recovered an iPhone 3G (so before they were waterproof ) that he dropped on a ski slope and was picked up by school kids clearing the slopes in spring. Picked it up a year after losing it and even more amazing it still worked.

Problem solved! She's driven back up from home, two hours away and seen my note and phoned me. Turns out she lives about 20 mins from my place. We're going to meet up when I get home.
