We will be in touch
Just moved into an old house. The kitchen is in the basement, the radiator that should warm the kitchen is at the bottom of the stairs (no space for a door at foot of the stairs) & the floor is tiled with slate tiles.
Adding an electric plinth heater is easy and under a £100 but for £160 ish you can buy a hydronic one that works off the central heating. The radiator is not far from the end of the run of cupboards where the heater will sit so no unsightly pipes either.
Is it a no brainer? I presume the hydronic one will be a lot cheaper in the long run.
Anybody any experience of these?
Do you still need and electric fan to blow out the heat from the rad fed one?
We have a hydronic one and it's very good - no point of comparison in terms of costs though I'm afraid.
Yes you do need electricity to power the fan - it's on a thermostat, only blows when the central heating is over 47deg in ours.
As above yes to powering the fan. I presume the electric heating element is the power hungry part though.
Bokonon - which make did you install? Reliable?
interesting - been looking at having a central heating, errm, heated plinth heater in our new kitchen.
That Myson Duo looks like the one. Run it with the GSH in winter and use the electric when it's not.
Thanks all.
As above, ours is a myson - had it in since last summer, so not a long term test, but it does the job.
it's the best place to dry shoes in my house - opening of the shoe pointing towards the fan outlet.
