MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
ok so i'm very close to sorting out my phone contract. i've narrowed it down to the three options. the desire, a sim only contract and a cheap nokia or no phone at all.
question for all the desire users on here and i've seen there are many, when inputting information into a text you turn the phone and get qwerty. does this work on all other text input scenarios like the calendar and web addresses?
cheers
Exactly the same for web addresses etc. Many threads on here, but a brilliant bit of kit.
No more pondering - just get one. They are brilliant. Apart from the amount of time you waste playing around with them!
best thing to do it go to a shop and have a play. Most places will have a 'live' one if you ask.
I was very sceptical before I got mine, as other touch screen phones weren't that sensitive - it was only iPhones I'd fiddled with and a colleague's HTC that actually seemed to respond well.
I asked in the shop & they let me try one out. I was sold in a minute or two.
Yeah, qwerty works in both orientations & the predictive text works excellently so even if you hit the wrong letters it will get the word right 99% of the time.
the LG renoir touch screen is very good, ok not many apps but its nice and the 8mp camera is great, but im upgrading to a desire in the next few weeks!
Desire.
Web addresses not an issue as it constantly searches Google for matches as you type, so something like STW is only about 6 or 7 letters away. Just used my Nexus One (virtually identical) to navigate across Manchester via the free sat nav capabilities. It's great.
another vote for android 2.0 on HTC ( I have a Legend rather than the desire)
just got it last week and im bowled over by it. Great apps, fast OS, a joy to use and type on. Only problem is it eats battery so I have chargers all over the place (home, car, office) just in case.
I like my desire a lot, really feels nice to use, and entering text is not a pain, works quite well.
If you're not a heavy phone user, Three are doing it on their website for £17 a month, with internet, but only 100 minutes/texts, which is a bit of a bargain for me, given I previously used to use about £15 a month in total and didn't get a fancy phone in that.

You can also download other virtual keyboards if you don't like the standard one, although they will cost you a couple of quid.
Another Desire fan here...the text input is fantastic, two thumb typing is quick and the phone sorts out nearly all the mistakes so you don't need to hit every key spot on.
The only problem I've had is when using the optical pad to move the cursor around to edit spelling, occasionally it won't respond, and once or twice its jumped up several lines and I can't move it to the words I want to change. Anyone else noticed this?
Spooky - nit exactly that but I'd say it can be oversensitive. TBH I don't use it much now I'm used to the touchscreen (which took a few days).
I have an HTC Desire and whilst it is faulty I have ordered a replacement. The phone is awesome and the key pad is really good to use even for someone with pigs t!t$ for fingers

The Submit button seems to work okay 😀
Ah a good example
Of having fingers like pigs t!t$
sounds like i need to negotiate with orange then. cheers.
Nick, Steves had one for a month or so now. He might let you have a play to see if you get on with it. You got his email/number? It seems a very nice gadget
of the 3 options i'd really like to go for
3) no phone at all
but in the event i've got a HTC
