Woke up at 4.30 today - read for a bit then was just about to go back to sleep when Lil Grips woke up having dumped milk all over her bed due to a faulty sippy cup valve.. so that was us up then. I was going to ride in but I was just too flippin tired. Snoozed some then drove ๐Ÿ™

Commute this morning was horrible - 7.5 miles in the cold on my all new 1.25" skinny road tyres. Took 3 minutes longer than the same bike running High Rollers ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

Tested out my new shorts (baggies on a road bike!?) and gloves this morning. Only really started to warm up as I neared work 4 miles.

Saw some kids playing cricket on the frosty grass of the local park though. None of them appeared Irish.

Attempting to commute every day this week by bike (long route).
How far?

Surfr - Aberystwyth, I'm dead jealous.

Well it's long to me! 17 miles each way. It *is* on my cotic roadrat singlespeed (yes, got the sandals!). ๐Ÿ˜†

Did I complain that yesterday was a bit cold? Well today was far colder and there was plenty of ice about. Needed my winter gloves but know I'd have boiled on the way home if I wore them.

My commute was great, got in to lift share's car, closed eyes, 35mins later opened eyes and was in works car park, another gallon of fuel saved and no need to speak, perfect start to the day, commute home will be pretty similar ๐Ÿ˜€

Yep, freezing cold, flat grey, direct headwind, high pressure dense air. Like riding in treacle. Not a good run.

Today was decent enough. Cold, -3 or so and foggy, but I was wrapped up well without being over-encumbered. Balaclavas are ace but I wish I had a slightly thinner one. Span away gently at first but picked up and put in a reasonable time.

Anyway, my mind tends to ramble a bit when road riding, so I tried to think of something appropriate that the letters LARD could stand for.

I came up with Large Abdomen Radially Distended.

Woohoo! I am now doing a 20 mile commute, a bit longer than before, but more or less dead flat. Did it in 59 mins albeit with a bit of a tailwind for the first half but crosswind for the second. Average speed 33.1km/h, average speed for the open road part (ie after all the cycleways and traffic lights and crap) was 34.4km/h!

Also of note was yesterday and today I was wearing just a jersey and base layer, and today was the first ride in summer shoes ๐Ÿ™‚

awesome, that's excellent for commuting traffic speeds.

Going home last night was excellent. Massively strong tail wind (I'd earned this by fighting my way into it in the morning), doing over 30mph through Lowton for over a mile, brilliant! Pity about the torrential rain.

This morning was great too, not as much wind, warm and sunny once the sun rose, dry. Superb.

I'm gearing up to start my bike commute again (stopped in Sept). Bought some new mudguards and trying to fit them right now (might need a trip to B&Q for some bolts), booked in to get the brakes sorted, then I've no excuses.

Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ I will say though that the new route is almost traffic free and entirely cyclepath free once you leave my suburb, which helps a lot. No traffic lights and only a few junctions and sharp bends.

I'm about to ride to work in the sun (though it's still cold) ๐Ÿ™‚ It's only about 3 miles. Will probably do an extended route to get home.

I started commuting this week - first ride was on Tuesday.

I've fitted some SPDs to my hybrid and it's made a huge difference.

Rode in today too. Lovely crisp morning. I do a 16 mile round trip which is a good mid distance I think.

New showers at work too - WOOT!

Looks like they are making a couple of new showers here too but it's all gone quiet this week.

A38 ride in..

3 mile detour to cover 100 yards due to a burst gas mains on the A38 at Longbridge. (miles 7 - 10) did the detour to see blokes walking around with fags lit up so it must have been a real serious one. Either that or the copper directing traffic at 5;30 was a bit pissed off and was flexing his authoratah!!

That's quite a commute through traffic there.

And now we know where you live and that you are out... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Commute was perfect today. After succumbing to temptation and using the van yesterday due to horrific wind (atmospheric; not my own), I woke up to sunny skies and a lovely day.

Felt so energetic that I beat someone on a road bike off the line at a junction near my house. 8)

I drove in ๐Ÿ™ had to nip home earlier to sell the old car to a happy ebay shopper ๐Ÿ™‚

Does seem to be the loveliest day this week though - enjoy it!

Enlivened by the cyclist who rode past the stop line at a major junction when the lights were on red then tried to track stand for a bit then rode in circles while he waited for the lights to change. He seemed not to realise that on two rotations he nearly got clipped by the oncoming right turning traffic while his back was to them.

If you can't track stand put a foot down it's not hard If you are going to ride in circles, DON'T! if you do it any way at least ride clockwise so you can see the traffic coming at you.
