Bought a solid oak Ikea worktop and chopped the end off, stuck 4 legs on the main bit so there's the table.
Just want to attach the piece to the table now so that it serves as a drop leaf table. Don't want to use another leg so thinking the best way would be to attach brackets to the underside and have a baton slide across.
Wondering if there are any other ways (ready to fit mechanisms?) that would provide the support without having to use another leg? Any ideas please?

Any handy people in the house?
Get two large back flap hinges and screw to underside of both leaves of worktop, ensure the gap is even and the edge is level with both pieces, ensure the screws used are not longer than the thickness of the worktop.
Now get 4 lengths of 2 X 1 planned timber glue and screw on its edge underside of worktop,the one with the legs on, leaving a space just slightly wider than a third piece of 2 x 1, these will form 2 slide runners, now plane another 2 pieces of 2 x1 slightly thinner on the depth, these will slide between the tracks, apply some candle wax.
Now screw a piece of covering wood over the tracks, when you need to use the drop leaf, just lift leaf and pull out bearers, easy.
What he said, but personally i'd go for a swing out leg
Swing out leg /support would work, but not as strong.
Simple use electromagnets.
Cleaner look but they may cause interference.
I'd go with what project has said but would use some metal sections like to z-sections or even just some spaced straps
Thanks project, sounds great. Yes would prefer the mechanism to be attached underneath the table leaves and not to use a swing out leg.
Taff - not sure what you mean, could you post a link to the metal section you're thinking of please?
