I was listening to Inspiral Carpets just yesterday.

That Buffalo Tom album - Let Me Come Over, I think it's called - one of the best covers of all time.

And while I've always been a big fan of Erasure, I would never have put them down as "Indie"

Loving the on-screen graphics. I quite liked the Chart Show format. No presenters, with the little nuggets of information coming up on the screen.

I remember praying that the specialist chart wouldn't be dance that week! Erasure are on there due to their label being independent, it used to throw up some unlikely chart toppers.

The info bubbles were great, very Ceefax

Love that album, Tailights Fade and Let Me COme Over takes me back to an important time in my life and will always be played in my house

Spectrum were an offshoot of Spacemen 3, the Sonic Boom part, whilst Jason and Spiritualized were the other offshoot. Actually so was darkside I think?

Yes, I remember liking Tanya along with Nina Gordon and Louise Post from Veruca Salt, Sonya from Echobelly and this lovely Dutch TV presenter turned frontwoman:

I saw The Family Cat play live at The After Dark in reading. The guitarist played a jaguar 12 string (I think) for that perfect early 90’s jangly indie sound.

Unfortunately they’re not on spotify. Superfuzz Bigmuff will have to do.

IIRC, Polly Harvey played guitar and sang backing vocals in the family cat on a few tracks.

+1 actualy, was a little random seeing as I'd just been idly wasting time on facebook and noticed that two of the girls I had massive crushes on as a teenager are now getting married (no not to each other, and not to me either). Not sure a modern re-make would work "I'm not really that upset about the girl from 15 years ago has packed and gone away becasue i didn't really have to put any effort into finding out what she's upto because I can just stalk her on facebook so I'm not really emotionaly invested in the whole process".

Ohhh, and I've always though Radiohead were a bit rubbish, but if that was the scene they came from then it's hardly suprising!

Some of buffalo tom fellas solo stuff is excellent too. Junes 1992 I was just finishing my a levels and about to leave Stourbridge ( centre of the indie universe) and go to uni. Happy days. Seen all but two of those live.

[b]Spectrum:[/b] As said above, one of various spin offs from the mighty Spacemen 3. I always thought it was a Sonic Boom project? I loved that first (and only?) Darkside record, but the maddest moment was the free 'Octaves and Tremeloes' EP that you could send off for if you had the ltd edition kaleidoscope copy of Sonic's debut album - although I can't remember what the album is called...
