Evening folks,

Just purchased a VW caddy van for biking duties, ice hockey kit carrying and work transportation..

Im going to get the cam belt replaced for my own piece of mind and was wondering if any of you had any idea how much id be looking at to get this done?

I live in Dundee if anybody fancies the job?

Cheers,

Mike.

Well, if you leave it 2000 miles past due to get it done at next warrant of fitness, and it goes, £800 on a Renault Kangoo which is pretty much the same. Sob.

£200 is money well spent if it's due !

I pay ~150 quid to my mates garage to do it on my golf plus some other little bits

Parts were about 100.

£330 on an Octavia 1.8T done by a Skoda dealer a couple of years ago, but that included the water pump etc., so you should be well under £300 if you use a local garage.

It is meant to be better to replace the water pump aswell, maybe see if i can get a guy at my work to do it..or get on the phone tomorrow.

The water pump is easily accessible when changing the cam belt and as it is a relatively cheap item it does make sense to do it at the same time as you avoid the labour cost twice and it will give you a bit more peace of mind.

I drive a 2.5tdi transporter.

My local guy would be £250 inc water pump.

VW £570 inc water pump.

Actual cost in the middle of nowhere in Spain at a VW dealer £750.00!!

Moral of the story - change the water pump as well. If who ever owned the van before me had changed the bombe d'agua when they had the belt done then it wouldn't have gone...Just lucky the bloody timing belt didn't actually snap 😯
