As above, neighbours have a large cherry tree which overhangs our garden and blots out the evening sun on the patio. It is also starting to interfere with the BT cables running from the telegraph pole.

I spoke to them today to enquire about having it seen to as my wife was v peed off by not being able to sit on the patio in sunshine last summer. I offered to help with costs because that way it will get done.

Just want a guesstimate. It is about 2 storeys high and in the corner of the garden by the road and our parking bay.

Ta

If that's true tell BT and they'll see to it.

Dont pollard it, it wont work on a cherry and you could be liable for the cost of the tree, also only prune it in mid summer, stone fruit trees pruned in winter, or no leaf, when the sap isnt rising are prone to a disease called 'silver leaf'.

If it was to succumb to sabbotage 😉 one dark night, then it would have to be felled! 😉

The trees owners are quite happy to get work done on it and are getting quotes. I was just interested how expensive it would be.

Would BT pay for it to be done or would they just insist the owners have it trimmed?

Re route the cables is no help. I really would like the blooming thing down in total as if it grows any more I won't get any light on my patio and my wife will insist on moving house which is bloody expensive.

Neighbours are happy to get it trimmed and relations are good.

BT won't pay for it, why would they its not their tree!

However apparently if the tree causes cables to break etc, BT will not repair until tree sorted and they will charge tree owner for repair.

So a tree surgeon told me.

We had our cherry tree reduced a bit. Cost around £250. We were advised to get it done just as the leaves start to drop. They didn't take a huge amount off as they said it wouldn't survive, although they said we should be able to take more off later this year. Two companies said the same thing and charged the same.
