Was out for a ride this afternoon and rode past a load of fellas fishing, pretty much to a man they were wearing some heavy duty camouflage. Are fish really going to notice them more if they just wore a fleece or nice jumper or somesuch. And if fish do have such super eyesight why aren't the rods painted duck egg blue (Airfix No23) in the same way that model spitfires were so that they don't stand out against the colour of the sky.
Isn't just that like most heavy duty outdoor clothing type stuff is camo? Or it's cheaper if buy it in camo?
it makes a difference fish are easily spooked when fishing the near bank. Sometimes crawling on your stomach to the water is the way forward 😉
Fish are pretty good at seeing rapid movement above water, eg predatory birds. Flat calm helps them see.
The camo thing is a tribal uniform, much like cyclists i suppose. Most of the clothes in fishing shops are olive or camo.
A sky coloured rod would still cast a shadow. Some rods are matte to stop reflections, no idea if fish are bothered by them though.

All joking aside that was the conclusion I came to. It probably makes sod all difference but it's fishing clothing. "I'm going fishing so I'll put my fishing clothing on"
My mate suffered a detached retina after a netball incident when he was 15.. his eye was permanently damaged and was then damaged yet furthur after a fighting incident in his early 20s.. After he was assaulted outside a pub a year or two later the eye was no longer fit for purpose and as a result of so much abuse it was by now rather unsightly (pun intended)..
Being rough and tough lads in a seaside town, we decided that rather than bother the doctor any furthur we could just perform a retinal transplant ourselves using a large fresh cod to be the donor of the new eye..
His vision is still pretty poor on that side, even after our surgical intervention.. so we can conclude from this that fish probably aren't intimidated by camo..
(some parts of this tale are fictional.. Winky 'codeye' Wilson does however, smell of halibut most of the time..)
That cardigan is frikkin awsum!
Just throw in an Hand Grenade thats the way forward in fishing
How good are fish eyes? They're OK with some tabasco on, a bit bland on their own....
Fish can spot movement very easily, and silhouettes (against the sky). Some of us (e.g. me) occasionally wear army surplus clothing because it is very tough, warm, weatherproof, and very cheap, no other reason. There are some hunters/shooters/anglers/off roaders/other who refuse to wear army surplus because of the solider wannabe image. So they wear non army surplus camouflage that still looks like army camouflage but has a fancy name and costs 20 times as much. **** knows why. Go figure.
