I've been getting cold calls from a company called 'Pensions Review' (01772938005) who were calling me about very two hours. I told them that I don't like dealing with this sort of thing over the phone and now they are calling me every 5-10 minutes. I don't have a smart phone unfortunately, it's an old school Nokia. Any ideas?

Report them to the ICO Information Commissioner tell the ICO that they keep calling you even though you ask them to stop

Find a friend with a smart phone.
Put your sim card in their phone.
Block caller.
Return sim card to your phone and the phone to friend.
I assume that the blocking is done by the sim card.

Apps, truecaller with truemessanger, or phonewarrior. Community based so one spammer report goes to all users, a known spammer blacklist blocks all calls.

Truecaller also caller ids a rgistered user even if they aint in your own sim or phone contacts so if you install, and i ring you, my name will be displayed

That'll work on a 6310.

On my phone I have an option just to block the caller straight away, iPhone6, no need to call anyone or register anything.

I would have thought the phone rather than the simcard would block it? But not sure?

On Samsung phones you select the called number in the phone log, select more & select block number.

Certainly on iPhone and I'd assume on Android too it can be done from your call list, select the number and block it.

Yep on iOS it's
call list > info > scroll down > block number.

Answer them and start heavy breathing, or ask them to hold for a minute and put the phone down etc...

or y'know google for "nokia XXXX block number"

Call your network provider. They should do it from their end.

htcs you can. sonys you can't.

if you aren't already signed up, register with the telephone preference service. tps.org
it's free and works IME.
you can do this for landlines and mobiles.

Some great advice there, thanks peeps. I've told them that I'm reporting them and they said 'well good luck with that', but I actually seem to be making some headway with the ICO and TPS websites. Some really useful stuff out here! 🙂

ITS NOT A SMARTPHONE PEOPLE!

People other than the OP may be interested in how to block unwanted calls.

They might want to know how to strip a MkII Escort engine also.

"Go and **** yourself" is something I've had some success with.
Also, "What are you wearing, could you undo a couple of buttons, that's what I'm doing, now just wait till I get comfortable" has ended a few calls.
does TPS work with mobiles?

and IME, it works just dandy. YMMV.
i was getting automated cold calls from different numbers as each time i got one i added it to my contacts list then sent the call straight to answerphone, which i don't have configured. i'd got up to 9 different numbers until i eventually thought i'd better check if i had this number registered with tps, and, err, i didn't.
haven't had another cold call since.
doesn't work on foreign numbers is the caveat.

TBF, you may be right. Can't remember now if I registered my mobile or not, maybe I didn't bother as it's toothless on landlines.

TPS only really works for callers who are legit- Marketers who have a genuine product to sell and think you'll be interested. What TPS doesn't work with is pernicious, manipulative scamsters like the one pestering the OP. With or without TPS registration simply asking not to be called again would be enough with any genuine company.

Pestering the person who's asked not to be called and even taunting them when you complain.... clearly these people are crooks.

Unfortunately for the OP you've been too tolerant and polite even to entertain talking to them at all - you've given too much away about yourself, just by putting up with them this far and believing they can be reasoned with they think your naive enough to be swindled and thats why the keep pestering you - and now others will too.

This is what concerns me when people say play along with scam callers - people think they're too clever to be conned but its easier to con someone you know something about than someone you know nothing about.

If your phone doesn't have a facility to block calls as such what you might be able to do is save the number - some non-smart phones will allow you give different people in your address book their own ring tone - make it a silent one. (I think with older Nokia's you can organise contacts into groups and assign ringtones to those groups)

Keep a note of how often the calls are being made but just don't answer and if it persists contact your phone provider and tell them you're being harrassed. Taunting you when you threaten to complain moves their actions from nuisance to harassment and abuse and your phone provider can be more active in dealing with it and maybe block the calls from reaching your phone at all

Buy a very loud whistle, Fox 40's are about the loudest, and when these idiots call, just blow the whistle at the phone.
Be careful, your own ears will ring after blowing it!

Tell them you work for Euthanasia Direct and are already fully covered. Ask them if they are interested in your services with plans starting from just £4.99 per month.

Next call start by announcing. "This call is being recorded for training purposes and will be charged at £65 for this and any subsequent calls. Proceeding beyond this point is your acceptance of my contract terms."
You will need their contact details for billing purposes as the first part of the next stage which will be chargeable. Failure to pay and off to small claims, keep proper records and shiney things will accrue in a very short time.
