This has to be the best LP I ever bought.
I just heard 2 notes tonight when I switched on the radio while making a coffee and heard the Gideon Coe show. I knew straight away it was " Willie the pimp".
I think I got it in 1969.
Stands the test of time . Just like "Wish you were Here".
Not a Luddite though. Loving sleaford mods and stuff like Anna Meredith and Nautilus.
I had forgotten all about that album. Top call I'm adding it to my wish list for crimbo
First Zappa I ever heard and most definitely not the last.
Brilliant album. Up there with Zappa's best. I've got multiple copies of it. I don't think anyone can solo quite like Zappa does on Willie the Pimp.
Certainly one of my faves - also only LP to get into UK top 10? I'm a big fan of Beefheart too so love Willie the Pimp.
Which leads me to mention this:
Hot Rats used to be ubiquitous in any hall of residence, same as Dark Side.
Popped my Zappa cherry with Apostrophe in 1974. Still my favourite but listening to Hot Rats is like putting on an old pair of gloves.....and that isn't a bad thing!
