Just been thinking about the history of our race and I am curious about the oldest structures.
Since Fred aka Talkemada aka elfinsafety isn't around any more, I thought I would start a thread in the spirit of his architecture threads?
Anyone want to join in and do you have any photo's or facts about ancient man made structures you like!
Depends how you define a structure. How about the changed landscape as a result of the development of agriculture? Or one for the future, the man-made plutonium that will never be completely eradicated?

The oldest I've heard of that were likely permanent are houses on the Isle of Man. 9000 years old.The oldest evidence a 'structure' ever are in Japan, from about 500,000 years ago, a hut. But since it was built by Homo Erectus, not Homo Sapiens, it may not fall under the category of "man" made.

what are the oldest man made structures known?
The Singletrack font of all knowledge, at Todmorden,
I propose this as one of the oldest and up there with the pyramids in terms of importance.

But we all know the pyramids weren't man made...
The pyramids are man made, they were just constructed by a branch of our genetic tree that was far more physically, intellectually and technologically advanced than we are now!

Are they woman made?
My grandad built a wall when he was 84, so that might qualify for oldest-man made structure.

I think you may have confused Stargate with a documentary.

It's important to remember that sea level rises have hidden a lot of potential evidence of civilisations that may completely alter our perception of societal evolution. Geometric structures have been found at depths that haven't been exposed for many millennia.
"they built up with their bare hands what we still can't build today."
Name that tune someone.
Yes I know its not about Egyptian pyramids.
Neil Young.
Definitely agree kimbers 😀
Very impressive!
Somebody been reading Eric von Daniken ?
I read Von Daniken years ago, it was OK, I prefer the work of Edgar Cayce myself 😉
... is the artist, song is Cortez the killer.Neil Young.
Ooh I do like a pop quiz. Any other topical lyrics?
Kaesae, you're doing too much thinking! 😉
There is excellent evidence to support the theory that homo carradicius built something strongly resembling the Dawes Galaxy just after they moved from the plains of Africa.
Sadly they all died out shortly afterward due to the lack of availability of 27 inch tyres outside Europe.

Not exactly a structure but pretty ancient.
Apparently they found an early Orange 5 prototype buried underneath it.
BTW in view of the avalanche of threads started by kaesae of late I am guessing he was one of those who felt too inhibited to post before the Big Hitter August Purge?
With respect to the video above titled 'Finding Eden', it's actually in Bedford.

A bit more humble than most people expect, but God's always liked a bit of humbleness.
