I know very little about hiking type jackets but this caught my eye as a day to day jacket:

If it's just for general day to day wear then really you're just looking at aesthetics and whether you like it or not. That will be more than waterproof enough for that.
If you're wanting one for walking up mountains in the pissing rain then that's probably a longer discussion
Otherwise it looks alright, I have an equivalent RAB that i paid similar money for. It's very red
Thanks! It'll be used for occasional trips into the hills for hikes but not all year round so I would like it to be capable enough for that.
