I got home from work tonight and half the guttering is hanging off (it looks like 2 0r 3 brackets have broken or screws have come out). The fascia is obviously shagged and probably needs replacing, I'm gonna borrow a neighbors ladder tomorrow to assess the damage/ temporarily remove the damaged guttering, but will probably need to get a professional to do a proper job, but where's the best place to start looking to get quotes from and is there anything I should look out for or avoid?

Thanks.

Do it yourself (with the ladders owner helping) use PVC fascia for no maintenance.

Jobs like that are a nice day are good fun IMO.

Do it yourself

How difficult is it to do myself? I've had a look but I'm a bit wary of having to remove/ refit roof tiles.

you shouldn;t need to touch the tiles to change the fascia and guttering?

only issue I had was trying to fit a 20ft long bit of board up a ladder on my own so you might want to get a mate with a ladder at the other end to help stabilise it.

YOu shouldn't need to take off any tiles. Simply all you're doing is taking off the existing fascia and screwing a new one to the ends of the roof trusses. The worst bit about fitting a fascia/gutter is having to deal with the lengths of the stuff and secursing the fascia. Gutter is obviously easier as you're putting it into the clips which are also fixed into the truss ends

2 ladders needed so get another neighbour in 😉 They go up their respective ladders, take old gutters off, then remove fascia boards from the joist ends. Then they fit new fascia and replace/renew gutter fittings then clip gutters back in. They do this while you make them tea.

Any fascia that is in half a good state can just be clad with L profile fascia cladding nailed direct on.

Had a fella come round to our old house in Braford... He had limited command of English, but managed to tell us our roof was broken (we didn't know this as we hadn't been out back that day) and that he could fix it for £30. Took him ages and he had to fabricate some bits in our yard (very old wooden gutters/ fascias and lead joins). Still only charged £30!
