Something been pooping in our garden and I'm curious as to what it is.

I know STW has helped other victims of unknown poos in the past.

We're pretty isolated and haven't spotted any cats or dogs about.

I have spotted hares, rabbits and pheasants on the garden.

Never a fox or badger, but have had a pile of feathers on the lawn before.

They look like two different poos to me.

fox

Put a stick in it and have a good smell. Fox is quite an acrid smell, badger is more musky. Very distinctive.

Unfortunately I've disposed of the faeces so no sniffing a shitty stick for me.

I believe this was a trap anyways!

Might look for a secondhand wildlife camera at some point to verify what comes in the garden

Once I know if it's a fox/badger/toad/STWer I've upset I'll sleep easier.

If it tastes sharp, sort of lemony then it's fox, bitter then it one of the mustelids (badger, stoat otter etc)

It's a fox poo. I trod in one last week. They make our dog go ballistic. I got fox on my Crocs and dog lost the plot, chased my foot around the lawn. Short dives, jabs, feints and some fast crawls. Commando style. Wouldn't leave it alone. Farcical by torchlight. Crocs are still outside a week later. Stuff makes me heave. Tried to wipe off with a stick but is like greasy play doh. Gah. Still like foxes here though. They bring their cubs to play and make eerie noises which goes well with the owls.

I think fox too - our front garden has been consistently decorated in them and the cats are not too keen on going out that way at night! The back garden is all fenced in so they are happy that way (and no fox poo).

I figured it probably was as there is a lot of calcium in it (bones etc). My dog used to love rolling in the stuff, made him smell alluring (he seemed to think) but now he is so old and arthritic he doesn't seem overly interested!

Quite why the fox has his or her nightly movement by my front door I don't know! I keep thinking of getting a night cam to catch them in the act - Wildlife Photographer of the Year here I come... with a crapping fox picture!

If it has the consistency of tar, has a distinctly strong, acrid smell, and you notice the neighbourhood dogs (or dogs from further afield in your case) lurking with intent near your garden, it's definitely fox. My dog would do anything to roll in that stuff, every walk was a game of "spot the fox sh!t" before the dog clocks it. Horrible stuff
