I stepped in today to manage the team. I help out regularly with the coaching and help the manager on a Sunday at the usual game but he couldn't make it this week. God it's hard work!
It's the gobby parents.
I had to walk away from this mornings game to avoid going off on one at a mouthy mother.
When she had the temerity to tell me that because she was paying £25 a month her kid should get to play for the whole match.........
What was the result?
First half absolute shambles losing 5 nil.
A little bit of mild hairdryer treatment and pointing out the fact we at least need to challenge for the ball saw the second half finish 3-2
So, all in all a good 8-2 whooping but the kids were a lot happier at the end of the second half as they actually had been involved in a game.
Did it for 5 years for my youngest' team, thankless task trying to balance not getting hammered every week and making sure the hopelessly inept also got time on the pitch.
Some parents who never helped in any way shape or form were always the quickest to criticize, I think they forgot we were volunteers and not paid FA coaches.
Cricket is far more civilized 🙂
I have just come in from my lad's game. U16, which means that despite there being 16 in the squad, there's about three of us that turn up to put nets/crowd tape up. I have to run the line 3 games out of 4 as most parents think that their involvement stops at washing their kid's kit and making sure they get to the game.
Respect to anyone willing to step up and coach, manage or volunteer for a club. It's a thankless task, where everyone is a ****ing expert.
all in all a good 8-2 whooping
Results like this could make you a front runner for the Arsenal job in the summer 😉
Did you have any pesky Polish kids being disruptive?
You should try running a Beaver Colony.

wrightyson out!
I took my grandson (7) to football training Saturday there was about 12 fights, 3 screaming fits, loads of crying and it ended with one kid picking up the bal and running the full length of the pitch and throwing the ball into the net. His dad had to drag him off home early. Hats off to the coaches that have to do this week in and week out.
Blinkered dads living out their own inability through their child, in my seventh year, every year is going to be my last!!!
Wait until you do a parents player of the year and you see some of the wasted votes to avoid giving the other candidates a vote, absolutely amazing!!
I do the line nearly every game .
had to remind some parents that this was a kid game and not the world cup final . and that i was helping so that their kids could play . in return i got called a cheat and a dck .
glad the season is finished .
cchris2lou the ultimate thankless task, you need the skin of a rhino, at lest reffing you can run down the home fans side!!
Found this documentary, might be useful
Did it for 7 years and was glad when my kids packed it in for bike racing (although that has nearly bankrupt me!).
It completely consumes you. You are a coach, mediator, accountant, social worker, kit storage facility......
The kids were great, some of the parents were great, some were a pain.
We tried to be a team that gave everyone the same time on the pitch which caused problems when we were losing and the best player was sat on the side lines.
Before taking it on I used to love football and enjoyed going to the odd match. I have now completely lost interest in it and that is why I keep turning down invitations to coach at the kid's cycling club. Cycling has always been my passion and I don't want it to become something that I hate.
People say that football brings out the worst in people but I think it just seems to be parents and sports. I have seen the same in cycling (some really unsavoury behavior from some parents) friends say it goes on in kid's rugby and athletics as well.
