I am an idiot, I own a very very sharp japanese pull saw.

Combine the two and the blood has only just stopped. I have ragged cut thats not going to by water tight by tomorrow at 7am.

You know that scene in apollo 13 where they dump all the objects available on a table...

Using only common household items and a first aid kit (the dressing i just put on expired in 2018) , how can i make my finger water proof. Initial thought is superglue and the a good dose of Gt85, alternatively I could fire up the putoline...

Back in my tree surgery days I recommended spiders webs and sawdust to stop it bleeding.

Nitrile glove and tape the cuff up?

My go-too is a lump of general wound dressing wrapped in insulation tape. If no wound dressing available then you can use cotton wool or even toilet paper foled to a wad, but they may be painful to remove at later date!

spiders webs and sawdust

Right, I'll nip down to the basement again and jam my finger in the corner.

I have a dressing. and I even have some blenderm (model glider hinges) will that survive a swimming pool?

This was not the OP I was expecting to see when I opened the thread, saw the title and just assumed that it would be WCA.

Normally I follow the "what happens when this saw has nothing left to cut" This time I went for "it will drop but i am expecting it so i will pull my hand away.

In reality what happened is the teeth of the saw embedded themselves in my finger... THEN i remembered to pull my hand away.

where on your finger. Do you need a whole glove, why not just a finger cut from a nitrile or latex glove and tape that aound the base?

Suspect it will sweat and get wet anyway though.

Super glue and as suggested nitrile glove or even a marigold, but depending on the cut position you only need the finger if either and gaffa tape the entrance.

If it was me I'd just be super gluing though and maybe put another glue layer on before you swim?

Why no pictures?! I like a good gory photo. Got one of a friend's knee replacement dressing getting changed the other night, so yours will me small fry.

och its not even worth a photo its pathetic really but the blood was pretty special.

I don't even like the bloody saw, they're massively overrated.

I swear by Germolene New Skin if you can get to a chemist/supermarket.
It hurts like Hell to apply, so you know it's good!

Where are you going swimming? I'd be very cautious if there're sharks about 🙂

Try a neater cut somewhere further down the finger to divert the blood away from the original wound.
Then just cover the whole finger in tar (feathers are optional)

Tourniquet round the finger, stop the blood supply whilst you're swimming. Whats the worst that can happen?!

IPA (cleaning not drinking type).

It’ll make yours eyes water. Not sure if anything more useful but worth a try.
If you do, please video and post the reaction.

I have no advice but here is a picture of my finger from a couple of weeks back when I nicked it on a paving slab. It also bled quite a bit.

Actually, I would suggest a taped rubber glove, perhaps one of those nice nitrile ones the Drs use as they are designed to block fluid transfer. I worked well for a friend who lacerated his hand punching a window apart from a couple of small leaks where glass splinters cut through. Kept the blood off the car fabric while we drove him to A&E

I tourniqued my thumb after I ran a 10mm steel drill bit into it. Then passed out.
Fortunately I lived opposite an emergency dept at the time. Definitely wasn’t swimming for a while though (the local pool was next door!)

Update from me - sorry to hijack your thread you young pretender - I had the pins pulled from my little finger today. What an anti-climax. He just grabbed the end in some pliers and pulled them out. No anaesthetic, no pain, nothing. Well, two pin picks of blood there the wires used to be. Wasn't that bothered that the video I took didn't record properly, it wasn't worth watching anyway.

I dunno if anyone has posted yet but back in my surfing days we used "dry gloves". And they are just that, dry.
11 quid from Lomo. https://www.lomo.co.uk/acatalog/latex-drygloves.html#SID=14

+1 for this - get some now for future use. I put a tenon saw through the end of my thumb and through the nail a while ago, bled for hours. Once I'd got the bleeding to stop, it was just massively inconvenient - not much you can do with one hand, and you don't want to get it wet or dirty, even with a plaster on. Then I remembered I had some of this, and it worked brilliantly: lasts all day, seals the water and dirt out completely, stops it opening up.

I'm using it at the moment where I sliced through the same thumbnail with a kitchen knife - no wound, but without it, it catches on EVERYTHING. Blob of New Skin stops that for a few days at a time.

Maybe I should just be banned from sharp tools.
