Seems my brakes are stuck on! Pedal is stiff and pads smoking. Car appeared to be losing speed between gear changes. Any tips / advice. Rescue could be two hours away. Ta.

That happened to me and after several garages sucked their teeth and replaced pads and discs, Mr Clutch bit the bullet and replaced the calliper. No more siezed brakes.

How olds the car, if over 10 my moneys on the rubber hoses expanding and not allowing the fluid to return tot he master cyclinder, thus locking brakes on.

Other options:
Brake servo is f****d

Car is on a 54 plate. Managed to disengage pads by pumping the pedal with engine running. Pulled off then realised NO BRAKES AT ALL. Drove to garage using low gears and handbrake! Quite stressful. So from Pads locked on to no brake response at all. Any ideas. How much ?

I'm no mechanic but I'm guessing that it's probably some sort of brake malfunction..

Jolly good.

Will have to sort out a "Plan B" for Saturday. I'll pick up Mr Fabulous. Can you get there in t'wifes car. Can't get 3 in mine.

Plan C. You get to mine. Mr Fabulous makes his own way.

Have they had new pads recently? I once fitted pads to a Jetta that were too thick. Lots of smoke and crimson red discs for a few miles then it calmed down!

A friend of mine once drive to college and back with no brakes whatsoever (ie, no shoes at all as he was halfway through fixing them).

It was just a 30 mile round trip :-O
