MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I've got a marants PM-66SE thats died, tempted to use the case and bits that still work as the basis for a project.
Where's a good resource for circuit diagrams, parts lists, etc?
First up is possibly a valve pre-amp section.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha :o) Don't forget carbon fibre interconnects...
The trick is to make sure that you get a good source of heavy electricity. Some energy suppliers provide lighter stuff that isn't properly damped.
I bought a little cmoy portable headphone amp off ebay. works a treat. various homebrew larger ones too.
if you google you can find all kinds of schematics
I've built a few
This is an excellent resource:
And these would make a very easy (and amazingly good sounding) first project:
I built the audiosector LM3874 one and now use it as my main amp.
you could try something like this

I'd steer clear of valves for your first project; unless you've got previous electronics experience (you may have; but you don't mention it...)
Quality Class D tiny amps here

You could make one of these!

As above, don't attempt a valve pre without experience. Layout is very critical quite apart from the safety aspects.
DIY Audio is a good resource, you could also try pink fish media.
In integrated amps it's most often the pre that's compromised.
I built one from a kit of parts c1982. I think it was from Maplin, but could be wrong.
Sounded good, but the inputs were 5-pin DIN rather than phono, which of course meant more trips to Maplins for various converter cables, as my turntable, cassette, tuner all had phono outputs.
I don't suppose it could ever have been described as "high fidelity" but it worked & it was a cheap way into separates. And being as I was doing an electronics degree, it kind of made sense.

As Woody2000 says, but no more so than a typical "What tyres...." thread!
Anoraks are anoraks!
Groan......oh dear......just don't blame me for this

or as a great start get excellent stuff from here

Unfortunately it's just another road to decreasing returns where you end up with titanium loudspeakers one day then decide that retro is the way & it's back to old school valves & telling your mates that vinyl is the future........(on my third cycle of this so far).
