It's weird how today goes pretty much unnoticed. Didn't realise myself until I saw your post.

Happy St. Georges day though. A good excuse to have a few beers in a nice pub.

I assume that Google hasn't acknowledged it because it is actually going to take place (officially) on the 2nd of May this year.

When St George's Day clashes with Easter in a given year, the Church transfers it to the first Monday after Easter week. As a result: calendrical confusion. This obviously only affects the day when Easter is late. The same thing happens to St Patrick's Day when Easter is exceedingly early.

"And upon this charge cry for God, Harry, England and Saint George!"

Day two of the great riding weekend and i shall amke sure to drop into the pub on the way back to indulge in Black Sheep Ale, Copper Dragon and Pride of Pendle 😆

Weather report has it raining in Scotland as well, more proof that God is indeed and Englishman! 😛

Going to be a glorious day as well.
It's also my sons birthday.
And the local is holding it's annual mini beer festival, a great little event that spreads out onto the village green.
Definately one of the 'nicest' days on the calender, and a great way to meet your neighbors.
It's hot out there today, so make sure you drink plenty 😉

That's really weird because Google did acknowledge it at 1:00am this morning but don't now

Saw the celebrations in Plymouth - they were amazing. I really really wished I was an Englishman for a minute. Then it passed.

Well yeah, St George was one of the patron saints of the Angevins IIRC.

Could be worse i suppose, we could have that Welsh model of alcoholism from across the Irish sea.... 😛

I'd prefer St Aldhelm as patron Saint of England. He was English, real, and a well educated man. Bishop of Malmesbury at one point. Still, I'll go along with St George, and I'll be raising an English beer to him tonight. Probably Broadside. Yum.

I always remember my Grandpa and father wearing their red rose with pride. You hardly see that now.

Maybe the historical annotations are not correct. but I think it is still a great thing to celebrate our country, our heritage and our history, without being branded racists.

Which probably helps to explain why most people can't be arsed to celebrate some dodgy foreign geezer who had nothing to do with our country, our heritage, and our history.

Saints - a bunch of bleeding heart do-gooders, the lot of them.

personally I don't need a day to tell me to celebrate the country I live in I have just had 2 pints of spitfire and a London pride 🙂
the whole saints thing is a bit silly considering we are officially not a catholic country thanks to old Henry
