Woppit stop being such an intolerant miserable old bugger and lighten up a bit!

I think it's quite nice for Tyger to wish us happiness actually. 😀

Woolwich Ferry is running a two-boat service!! Woohoo!

[img] [/img]

But where's the other one? I hear you cry.

Here it is!

No-one expects the Woolwich Ferry, Kev. Well, actually people waiting to cross the river at Woolwich might. But it's almost Spanish Inquisition-esque in it's unexpectedness on a thread about Easter.

Ha! You certainly weren't expecting that, were you??

Still no apology, for calling for the assassination of Salman Rushdie, from this former hippy warbler in his subsequent role as an Islamic fanatic...

Sorry, I thought this was common knowledge. Evidently some of us, unlike the loveable little tykes in the Pink Floyd song, DO need some education.

When the Ayatollah Khomeini issued a Fatwa against Salman Rushdie, calling for his assassination for writing a book that the Ayatollah didn't like (The Satanic Verses) - a call that ruined Salman's life thereafter - "Cat Stevens" (now and at the time, "Yusuf Islam") went on national TV and called for all muslims to kill Salman if any of them knew where he was.

Not really "wibble", more a Bank Holiday tale of typical religious fanaticism from another of the planet's leading purveyors of vile gibberish.

Sorry, I thought this was common knowledge. Evidently some of us, unlike the loveable little tykes in the Pink Floyd song, DO need some education.

And if you bothered to spend just five minutes on Google like I just did, you would yourself become better educated about the whole situation, not least Yusuf Islam's admission that he'd basically been a bit of a knob over the whole SR affair.

Here's what he said in a later interview:

Providentially, they kept in one important response to a final question posed directly to me by Geoffrey Robertson QC. At the end of the debate he asked me to imagine if Salman Rushdie was taken to court in Britain and the Jury found him ‘not guilty’ of any crime – Blasphemy or otherwise – and dismissed the case, what I would do. I clearly stated that I would have to accept the decision and fully abide by the law! And that was no joke.

So, bloke acts like a knob, then later admits as much, and makes some effort to modify his position.

So, Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam publicly managed to do something you seem incapable of, Woppit.

Anyway's up; live and let live mate. Some folk wanna celebrate Easter. If they ain't causing anyone else any trouble, then just leave them be. Like I, and many many many other people manage to do. S'not that difficult.

Bit of Dali for you:

Happy Easter! 🙂

I see nothing there that is an apology for helping to ruin a renowned author's life and encouraging his assassination. Let alone an explanation of why "blasphemy" should be an "offence" anywhere...

Massive fail, in your usual fashion.

Did I say it was an 'apology'? Did I? Hmm? Come on clever clogs, show me where I did that?

All I said was, he admitted he'd bin a knob. He admitted he was at fault. something you are incapable of, despite being at fault, well, pretty much always really tbh.

I never fail, Woppit. I only win.

Fancy a pint?

don simon hits the nail on the head. Rushdie was mostly unknown, beyond a the sort of person who watched the South Bank Show, until the fatwa was issued. Overnight he became a global celebrity and since the fatwa has won a multitude of awards and a knighthood. He clearly wallows at being in the limelight and the admiration bestowed on him by the liberal elite, and loves to be interviewed, and likewise photographed with beautiful women. The turning point in his career undeniably occurred with the issuing of the fatwa, after which it took off meteorically. If he didn't ask the Ayatollah to issue the fatwa, he should've done - I can't believe for a moment that he regrets it.

Did I say it was an 'apology'?

No of course didn't. That's my point. Your response to MY post about there being no apology, was to talk about something completely different.

Quite why you think this is adequate, I've no idea.

I doubt having to spend years being shuttled from secret location to secret location accompanied by security and having no public or social life to speak of, could be described as an attractive life prospect.

Who are the "liberal elite", by the way? I thought that was just an old canard hoisted occasionally by the likes of Republican American Presidents and the like when they needed someone to blame for their own mistakes. Do we have these mysterious, powerful agencies at work in the UK also? I think the nation should be told. Does David Ike know about this?

having no public or social life to speak of

😀 You come out with some bollox dontcha ?

Google Salman Rushdie images to see evidence of his partying social life. I think he's been married four times since becoming an internationally renowned celebrity. And who hasn't he given an interview to ? ........even Playboy readers haven't been spared.

No of course didn't.

So what the bleedin 'ell are you banging on about then? 😕

Even some of the atheists on here are tired with your constant evangelical fundamentalism, Woppit. Is that why you carry on with it? Cos you know it annoys folk?

I doubt having to spend years being shuttled from secret location to secret location accompanied by security and having no public or social life to speak of, could be described as an attractive life prospect.

Ooh I dunno, looks alright to me. I think I could quite happily put up with this kind of 'security'...

You come out with some bollox dontcha ?

Admirable grammatical "street" credibility. Do you wear a hood?

The wine, women and so forth came much later, after the threat was judged to have shrunk to virtually nil. And as far as I'm concerned, he deserved the perks, poor bloke. Would that all who are threatened with death for annoying some religious half-witted thug or other were so rewarded...

Well, I could repeat the rest of the post to which you refer, but as you evidently didn't read beyond "didn't.", I doubt whether it would elicit a reply any less gormless than that one.

Do you and Fred go to the same language classes?

You see, that's part of the problem. Woppit can't see that there's not a great deal of difference between himself, the Pastor Terry Jones and the likes of Abu Hamza. All extremists who refuse to acknowledge that other people have a right to their own beliefs. As with all fundamentalists he doesn't really believe in freedom of thought and speech unless it happens to coincide with his.

Salman Rushdie's an insufferable, arrogant cock who writes unreadable books.
Oh, and Happy Eostra, for those who aren't so keen on a religious aspect to the holiday.

Well I thought it was a nice, positive gesture, Tyger. A friend of mine Skyped me to wish me a Happy Easter. He knows i'm not a Christian, but I still appreciate the fact he thought of me to do so.

So, yeah, Happy Easter everyone! It has been a very happy Easter for me. 🙂

Tomorrow I will be going to the supermarket to purchase heavily discounted chocolate eggs. I do hope they have something like a Terry's all Gold or Black Magic one, and hopefully something with a free mug.

Excellent string of assumptions but unfortunately, not a single accuracy.
