Up North and stuck for something to do?  Check this out.

https://www.thorntonhallscreams.co.uk/scare_mazes/

I mention this because a) I thought it might make for an interesting conversation and b) it's shameless self-promotion as somehow I'm one of the scare actors!  Come see me.

(I gain nothing from this post, in fact it's to my detriment as the more visitors there are the harder work it is.)

I'll be at the one in Middleton running a stall.

Tunnel of Terror - Middleton Scarefest 2025, Lodge Mill, Townley Street, M24 1AT, Middleton, 31 October to 1 November | AllEvents

Good fun in a very low-tech kind of way.

I had no idea what the title meant so opened the thread……..

so it’s a marquee with folk running around with masks/costumes?

The outside part of it is, yes.  There are also self-contained scare attractions, think maybe haunted houses but aimed at adults rather than kids.

If we're shilling, some friends of mine is part of this every year mate does set design/tourguiding as he gets to indulge his inner thesp, his wife goes full ghoul as she likes terrifying people.

It's in an old Victorian fort/garrison and was good when I went as a punter a while back.

I'll share some once he's out of NDA and can send some - they take it all a bit seriously!

Yeah.  I'm not allowed to share photos either, which seems a bit silly when they've got videos from vloggers up online.  That said, the area I'm in is strictly no photography at all no matter how 'influential' you think you might be so perhaps that's why.

The Middleton one that I'm at is an old cotton mill. There is a guided walk through it's various floors where teenagers dressed up as zombies leap out at you.

Hah, ace.

The one I'm in has a safe word, it's out extreme event.  If a customer can't hack it, the safe word will get them gently escorted to the nearest exit.  I've been keeping a tally of how many 'runners' we've had.  At the start of today we were up to 65 with today and next weekend left to go, we were discussing whether or not we'd hit 100 before the end of the season.  Assuming my tally is correct (and it won't be 'dead' accurate, not everyone tells me and some get counted twice so it probably balances out), after tonight we're up to 106.

The Middleton one starts at 5 and finishes at 9. Tours get progressively more "jumpy" throughout the session.
