Hart in Hampshire ?

Clearly the criteria don't include mountain biking.

Bet no one from there can just ride out from their door to some top singletrack like I (and I expect many others) will be doing this morning.

Pah !

They use hours of sunshine and mm of rainfall as a factor, which explains why all the top 50 are in the south.

There's nothing on the North keep in the south please.

McMillan, born in Darfield, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, cited a string of northern towns he felt should have made the list, including Harrogate in North Yorkshire, Egremont in Cumbria, and Alnwick in Northumberland.

"I mean, Alnwick has got everything: it's got a lovely theatre, a brilliant fish and chip shop, and a wonderful cafe that serves toasted teacakes,"

Not true it's rubbish here.

Pah!

Shush. You don't want the sort of people who want to live in places like Hampshire moving to where real people live, do you? They'd only spoil it for the rest of us.

Hart sounds like a nasty, snobbish, curtain-twitching, Daily Mail-reading dump, I'll stick with my grim northern mill-town, thenks.

indeed, 'in' Milton Keynes.

Great cycling easily accessible. No irony from that point of view.

I like it here, but I must admit, it wouldn't be your cup of tea if you liked traditional English villages.

Egremont in Cumbria

I visit there a few times a year. Always have a marvellous time, but it's the company and riding that makes it. The town doesn't even have a good pub.

Mole valley 24th and probably best in SE for MTBing.

Quality of life good but house prices here in Mole Valley the big disadvantage - not enough money left for buying bikes!

I live in Fleet, there's loads of decent riding nearby as the MOD own a shed load of the local countryside/woodland so it's fairly well preserved (for now). I can ride from my door and be in the woods in 10 minutes or less. Clearly the riding is nowhere near as good as Wales, the peaks, Scotland, etc etc but it's pretty good. Road riding is good also, lots of lovely country lanes and hilly enough if you head south into the North Downs.

As above though, house prices are fricking ridiculous. Very tempted to move away because of that.
