How warm is a piece of string? The Arc'teryx Atom SV is ace, but quite pricy, warm but light. Rab's Xenon is brilliant if you want ultra-lightweight, but not very warm - think emergency insulation, works well for riding in in really cold conditions like last winter - and expensive. The Rab Generator is a better all-round bet, but bulkier and heavier.

Most of them are quite similar tbh. There are ultra-light ones, the Xenon and TNF do one, which are kind of lightly insulated windproofs. Then there are medium sort of ones, kind of warm but not excessive, then there are over-sized, generally warmer belay jackets.

The Barrier, I think, is in the middle cat. Like the Generator or the Atom or the Berghaus equivalent.

What do you want to use it for?

I like my Rab generator for climbing, but I generally wouldn't wear any primaloft insulated jacket for riding in - too warm.

Not wanting it for anything technical / riding etc. Just a warm layer for knocking about in.

Shredder it's a very nice functional bit of kit ( barrier vest )
Perfect at the end of day if I'm cold after jacket gets punted in the back for the drive home

Packs into it's own pocket, not full of silly logos and can be carted about with no weight worries
Tbh most haglofs stuff is spot on

I've got a LIM Barrier and it's a great bit of kit. I use it for cold stops and hanging around on belays etc. I wouldn't expose it to a lot of physical grief as it's very lightly built.

I love Haglofs kit. Top drawer.

Most of our chaps at work wear the Montane Prism - one has a Flux and it is too warm usually. Cut well, simple features, well made.
Job Done.

I'd generally agree with you, but last winter, when it was getting down to -10?C or so as the sun went down, I was wearing a Rab Xenon over a lightly insulated soft shell and it was perfect, windproof but with a little extra insulation value. But that was pretty extreme and the Xenon is very lightly insulated.
