Hi all,
Staying in Hexham for the weekend of the Great North Run. I'd like to visit somewhere other than the centre of N-u-T, which was Sarah's only idea for something to do tomorrow. No shopping!

The obvious thing is Hadrian's Wall, so which are the best sites to visit?

Cheers!

Go see Housteads fort on the wall. Loads of cool bits of the camp are left and that stuff has been there for getting on 2000 years!

I'd go with CFH's suggestions TBH, Housteads is interesting, but it's a long drive for a bunch of stones. Vindolanda is better though. Plus there's the Baltic in town if you don't fancy driving

Long way, but worth it, IMO

Passing so much on the way to get there though, Alnwick castle for example although the dominance of Bamburgh is amazing, Dunstanbugh beats it though but not as much to see there.

No bike I take it? Kielder is not too far away and has some nice tracks. It does have hire spots if you can be arsed with that.

We were on the wall at Fort Housesteads a couple of weeks back - thought it was fantastic, must see spot in the UK really. We walked 3 miles along it to a place called once brewed where there is an alehouse - got the bus back. Felt a long 3 miles carrying the wee man in the backpack - pissing rain too but still thought it was great.

No, no bike. Don't want a long day out as Sarah is running on Sunday morning. I like the sound of that walk Garry, might go for that.

Cheers all.
