MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Any of you proper bikers out there got one? I'm testing one on saturday if the weather holds out!
New one? Or an older model? Bloody lovely bikes, everything you've read is true, exactly like a 600 but nicer to ride basically. Legendary suzuki build quality does mean you shouldn't ride it til May though
I've never owned one but I've known a few.
Epic Bike, especially with a few mods. Just switched from a 6 to a 1000! Very nice, power like never before, set up with a power comander and a set of micron serpants, giving 176 on the wheel!
750 is same size of 6, but with more power!! Feels great to ride, easier than 600 though!!
Id only get one if you'd previously ridden a modern 600, cause the power is ferocious!! Enjoy!!!
K2 looks much nicer to me and you'll have cash left! Plus no one needs a faster bike..
Not had one but could be talked into a K5 one day.
Cracking bikes, just wish they weren't so ugly (though I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder).
Fowlers in Bristol have an original '86 model in their s/h dept. If I had a couple of grand spare I could be very tempted as a second bike, remember lusting after those like crazy when they came out.
new one! got a 08 ZX6R at the moment, but had biggr bikes before. Just fancy a change! and they look lush in bronze/black! Its a K9 with £1000 off, so what with decent trade in on my bike (and the fact i got a good deal on that when new!) its not to expensive to change! I tried the new ZX10r and ridden a blade before, and a couple of naked 1000's, they are all a bit to much for the road!
Had an H model back in the day (what ever that means) horrible around town sublime on A roads. Say bye bye to your license 😆
a mate has one which I've ridden. Great fun. Very small and revs like crazy and a doddle to ride fast. As said, very 600-like but with more go.
Not in the same league as the thou though, which is significantly faster and a whole different bike because of it. Going down from my K3 1000 to the 750 was like rding a RGV250 again!
One came under me at Barn (Cadwell), only to see it, seconds later, bounce its way across the grass at Coppice.
Careful whan opening the throttle, fully cranked over as it might just catch you out!
ive had over 20 bikes and my last one was a gixxer 750 k5...its was by far the best.silky smooth gears, fab handling and just pulled in every gear..
im now looking at a new one.mite go for the thou! 😆
I had k05 (one before the oval cans).
Massively capable bike in every way.
Just prefered the Duke as it had more "soul".
[self-promotion mode on]
here is a clip of me at Oulton. I've got the camera on my K3 1000 following my mate on a K7 750 (in black) - I was tutoring him so we were filming his lines.
At 2:38 I overtake my mate, so he can follow my lines - and you can see how much more grunt the thou has - and set off after a bloke on a K5 1000, which is even gruntier still. I pass the K5 at 3:40 as he was fairly slow in the corners.
Like the video.
Oulton is a great course, late apex's, double apex's, running wide under power - it's got most things, inc' rough tarmac on the inside of some, positive camber on others.
Always rewards some courage and being smooth (and fast) on the turn-in.
Also good for overtaking as many corners have two very real & possible lines, or whilst racing, an offense and a defensive / blocking line.
Reggie- with whom do you instruct?
Just my mates. A couple of my mates instruct for the trackday companies (Hottrax I think) but I just tend to do it for mates. I used to race so I can generally point them in the right direction.
I shall be hitting the dealerships next month to start testing to replace my beloved Vmax which was written off in October.
No idea what i want at the moment and unfortunately as i am so tall the newer sports bikes are a no no for me as they are just too small.
Need 1000cc minimum (miss the torque of my Vmax) but has got to be a big bike. £7500 set aside for the purchase but nothing floats my boat at the moment. Was looking at the new Z1000 but the expected price tag of £7200 came out at £8500 and that's more than i want to spend on that bike.
My old man has just bought a Kawasaki GTR1400 over in the states and is all ready to start his first ever tour there next week (only 2 weeks but a fair few thousand miles).
Very much looking forward to getting back in the saddle this summer. 🙂
I'd never buy a Suzuki again after the SV650 I had new in 1999. After just 6 months and less than 3000 miles:
Brake calipers sticking
Rust in the tank seams
Fork lacquer falling off
Gear linkage seized
Lacquer falling off the engine cases
Almost all alloy components covered in corrosion fur
Then the dealer who supplied it told me it was my own fault for not washing it and polishing it every time I rode it.
Reggie - self promotion mode due!! Thats one of the better video's of its kind i've seen on youtube! I take it you were not in the novice group then 😆 I've still not ventured onto track yet, i know - i'm wasting my bikes! I live right close to snetterton so may force myself this year. It goes to show that a good rider on a slower bike can still take the big bikes on if they are not being ridden as well!
Mostly Balanced - triumph were not much better with my 955i, 1 year old with alooy worm on the pegs, hangers, forks - not covered by warranty. I always cleaned it well, and hardly used in the wet either!
God she looks so nice too!
Hmmmm!
my dad had one.. didn't like it as it was only fun at trackdays and after being hit on the road while riding one... went for a fazer 1000 after that.
here is a clip of me at Oulton
Nice. Not ridden there but I've done several days at Cadwell Park and at Knockhill. Both are fun but Cadwell is just fantastic.
Need 1000cc minimum (miss the torque of my Vmax) but has got to be a big bike. £7500 set aside for the purchase but nothing floats my boat at the moment.
The Suzuki Bandit and the CBF1000 (I've got one of the GT versions) are both good bikes but biased more towards being general purpose workhorses than exciting.
How about getting a classic - finding a nice 6-cylinder Z1300 for example?
Forget it it's an inline four, therefore it's crap on everything but a straight line.
Now if you're talking about something white, with an italian stable inside two cylinders, you might get something that looks like rides like and sounds like a bike.
Actually that works for a british stable an two cylinders as well.
Forget it it's an inline four, therefore it's crap on everything but a straight line.
I've had V-twins and liked them but actually prefer inline 4's. I've got a couple at the moment (CBR600 and CBF1000GT) and both seem more than adequate at going round corners (on trackdays the CBR600 seemed more than a match for 750 Ducati's both in a straight line and on the corners). Anyone not able to do anything other than gun them in a straight line probably needs to get some additional training - or perhaps they only buy shiny italian bikes for posing on?
had one 15 yrs ago!! Great bike, pretty single minded bike, fantastic on A and B roads. Was a bit small for me being 6 foot.
steve my problem at the moment is I am going trough front tyre and foot pegs faster than through rear tyres.
I wish I could afford something with the correct number of cylinder made in austria but I can't 🙁
"Forget it it's an inline four, therefore it's crap on everything but a straight line."
I'm not sure if this is just so sarcastic it's gone out the other side, or if you're genuinely a nut? 🙂
You are a lucky guy Mick! Would love one. Bring it round when you get one please!
Curly, i'm only getting it to save you the job of fitting the new rear tyre on the ZX6R!
why did you get a brown one............do you not know that the blue and white gixxer's are the fastest!!
I bloody loved my old GSX-R750!!! I was young, stupid, and was using it for day-to-day motorcycle courier work. It had the nackers tuned out of it and did the same MPG as a fully laden Range Rover.
The local constabulary loved it too, as they were nightly forced to listen to it howling around the local expressways (sounded ****ing lovely on song). The inevitable happened of course. 125mph in a 50mph zone is neither big nor clever kiddies.
It was the bike that made me do it officer. Honest!
juan - Mine used to go through front tyres faster than rears. They used to develop a lovely triangular profile
Brown?????????????????????????????? 😯
easier to clean?
This weeks gonna drag Mick 😆 You even got me looking round a motorbike shop saturday! looking at trading in my CB500 for a CBR600
Ive seen this new brown 2010 version in the mags etc and it looks nice mick. post pics up in the daylight so we can see how it looks out of the showroom!
looking at a K5 for this seasons track [ab]use........ 👿
I'll be interested to see what its like in daylight too! I took a used one out for the demmo, and it pissed down! It was so overcast outside when i got back, when we pushed my one outside to see what the colour was really like, it was darker than inside. I'm sure it will be ok though(please!)

even with the brown colour!
😯
It looks better in the flesh! I was seriously doubting it myself untill i picked it up! It Pissed down on the way home so was even browner by the time i got home. You shouldnt have to wash something the day you buy it!
oh look someone's just fly tipped some old gixxer 😆
lovely bit jealous now
How dare yee!
I am surprised you stopped to take pics
I would still be on it now
prob ran it in on the first day
Can't see the Yoshi can on it yet though! Looks nice, can't wait to see it in the flesh.
Pipe should be here about Tues/Weds, You'l hear going passed your house when it does Curly!

Big thanks to Flapjack for hospital duty and Curly68 for recovery of the bike!
What did you do? Or did it fall off the stand?
It fell off the back of a mercedes A-class that decided to do an emergency stop for a bird that was in the road! S#it happens!
Oh no, FFS that's awful 😥
Are you ok?
Bike doesn't look too bad.
Looks like the crash protector on right side worked.
Hey no problem picking the bike up. Hope your missus is feeling better today. You will be on house duties for a while whilst her arm heals!!
We came off pretty good really, she has a broken arm and i dislocated my little pinkie! The bikes mainly cosmetic, but you never really know with these sportsbikes. Its been taken to the dealership for assesment, so hopefully i'll know soon. Thats what insurance is for i suppose 😆
bugger. Im gutted for you.
Looks like those crash bungs were a good investment.
I know how much you'll be gutted, but at least you and the missus are here to tell the tale.
Fingers crossed that it'll be good news from the dealership.
Nightmare! Hope you and the the bike (and your missus!!) are sorted and back riding by the time Summer proper kicks in!
F***k me that was quick
from new to trashed in a couple of days
another *RAGGED TO WITHIN AN INCH THREAD COMING*
glad to hear you are all ok
bet you pi**ed right off now
DEE-DAA .. DEE-DAA......Dr Flapjack here!!
Chin in the old UP position. We can save the indicators but I'm sorry to say the colour can't be changed.
Hope MrsSaki's arm is bearing up, I know I'd be bolloxed without the use of my right arm for a couple of weeks, (I just don't seem to have the co-ordination required for the left)
Hats off for putting yourself forward for public ridicule - from flash to trash in 24 hours! 😆
1 plus point
at least you didn't trash the yoshi

I don't think it would be that bad if it lasted a couple of days. This happened just over 24 hours after pick up!
If you didn't like the colour, you could have bought a blue one instead of throwing it down the road!
In defence of the colour though. When the sun hits is (not an A class), it does show off a nice reddish sparkly hue.
I think the only reddish hue is coming from Mickasaki's face!
If you want my professional medical opinion it looks like a classic case of running into a corner too fast and running out of talent!
Flapjack - if anyone knows about lack of talent - your the man!
At least its only my wallet with the serious longterm injury Singletrack collection time anybody? 😉
I will just have to get the hemlock out more now, trouble is i'm having trouble stayin on that too - mainly due to lack of talent of my riding buddies - you know who you are!
Ahem! I wasn't the one falling off any bikes, I was in front and stayed out of the puddle! 😛
arse, If its any consolation I crashed 19.6 miles after passing my test and buying a bike, although it was a car going into the back of me that caused it. Hope your ok and the mrs isnt able to hit you too hard with her good arm!!
That's awful to have crashed so soon. The crash bungs did appear to work though.
On reflection, were you possibly slightly too close to the car that did the 'emergency stop' in front of you?
Just wondering, as I'm always looking for ways to improve my riding/safety and I'm quite wary of people stopping in front of me, having once had a car brake in front of me and me locking my front wheel.
Curly, what makes you think i was talking about you 😉
Geronimo, i suppose i must have been really! although i crtainly wasn't aware of it at the time, and was only riding at a leisurly pace for a change! I wonder if part of the problem is looking ahead of the car infront to pre-empt problems. The road was clear as far as i could see. Not sure if the driver let off the throttle initialy to slow down and then braked or something, so the gap was already closing before i was alerted. I just dont know really. At the end of the day, i should have been able to stop in time, but couldn't, so no excuses as i hit him, not the other way around! I'm man enough to admit that! But being made to fall off ones mountain bike due to certain people traveling to slowly (wont mention Curly or Flapjacks name here!) is just rude 😆
I went with ABS on my latest bike so I could just haul on the levers in these sorts of situations, especially when it's wet. If it does happen (and touch wood it hasn't yet) I wonder if I'll forget I'm on the ABS bike though (my others don't have ABS) and brake as normal.
New technology - it'll never catch on 😆 I dont know if it will always help anyway, in my case i didn't even manage to lock up. Whether your mind would allow you just to heave on the brake fully straight away without thinking is questionable i'd have thought. Theres only one way to find out! Probably better just to leave even more gap and expect the freaky actions of otheres to happen! If your going for a VFR though i'd have it.
Probably better just to leave even more gap and expect the freaky actions of otheres to happen!
When I'm on two-wheels I treat all other road users as homicidal maniacs out to get me and I've found that's worked well so far!
If your going for a VFR though i'd have it.
Given the option I'd definitely pay extra for it now. Didn't have the option with my CBF1000 as the GT versions (the one with full-fairing and luggate) all have it as standard but if I'd went with the base model I'd have specified it anyway.
Are the mirrors totally knackered or did they just breakaway and snap back into place?
Nice bike. A bit different from the usual lary superbike-alike designs.
Shame about the story. Enjoyed reading it and watching it evolve right up to the pictures after the crash.
Yes the mirrors are buggered! along with all the body panels, tops of the forks, top yoke, ignition, imobilizer, fairing/clock braket and plenty more! Lessons have been learnt! Its not put me off in the slightest either, and cant wait to get it back. just hope its here for the summer! Never mind, just have to use the Cotic some more! may be having an adventure down to the north downes this weekend so should be fun!
Thanks for all the encouragement everyone, its appreciated!
Sorry to hear about all the damage, it doesn't look that bad in the pictures 🙁
How are they injuries healing up?
I'm pretty much sorted already, just a few aches'n'pains, back to work today. The wife is not to bad either, just been told to rest her arm and keep it in the sling. just got to go back to hospital for more xrays next week to see if they need to pin her arm or not , or just leave it to heal itself, hopefully it will, then she can start on the housework again!
Hope that you're spoiling her!!!!!!!! lol
Good news that you're back to work, so to speak; hope that the insurance gets sorted quickly and that you get back on 2 wheels ASAP.
You noob 🙁 Your insurance company must be delighted
Hope you both heal up well. Amazing how much damage you can do with a fairly minor shunt...
At least i'm going to get my moneys worth out of the insurance company at last, justice is finally done 😆
Until your next premium! You'll end up covering the damage for the next 5 years until they have pretty much charged you the full wack split over your next 5 premiums! At the end of the day, it's only metal and plastic. At least the 2 of your are ok (ish).
Good job i had just renewed my car insurance too! Theese things happen, so just have to put up with it. You cant not have the insurance, and i'm going to be paying for the bike for a while, so its got to be used!
