Should I bother shaping the grout?

As I'm not the best tiler in the world some of the tiles aren't quite the same exact height as each other. By wiping it with a damp sponge I'm getting a nice smooth transition between the tiles.

However I think shaping it with a piece of dowel will give a better finish and won't do that bad a job of hiding the transition between the different heights of the tiles.

Sponge is all thats needed usually, but if shaping in your case looks better...

Try a small patch and see 😉

The only thing I could say against shaping is will it cause the joints to attract grime/muck etc? Obviously depends on grout colour, thickness of joint and room! Looking back, wishd I'd never chosen beige for my kitchen floor!!!

Dark grey is the best colour. Every tiler I see uses a grouting sponge and a special bucket. Shaping the grout will look nice but end up mucky as pointed out above.
