Most B&B's will have a communal living room / breakfast room.
ah for about 20 people anywhere in lakes will do, north lakes best

Fairly basic (It's just a village hall) but cheap and cheerful. Decent showers, too.
+1 for sykeside. awesome beer, grub and location.

Dinah Hoggus camping barn is very basic and will be cold in January, but has a great location right at the bottom of the best descent on the Borrowdale Bash.
