Looking at riding the Great Glen Way next year, does anyone know who provides luggage transfer etc?
have you done the route before?
i've walked it, and to be perfectly honest, I found it relatively boring compared to other experiences in the same area, cycling it didn't really cross my mine. I did the WHW followed immediately by the GGW one year, and the GGW just felt like a bit of a let down after the WHW. It's not as dramatic (in terms of scenery change etc).
It was a while ago I did it, and my memories may be slightly jaded by tiredness and injury after the WHW, so sorry if i'm being overly miserable about the GGW! 😀
I think Sherpavan do the GGW, to answer your question though.
I have ridden some of it whilst visiting Fort William. I kinda guessed it wouldn't be very exciting, but there will be someone new to biking etc and was looking for something fairly easy.
I rode it last year and used these guys to get back to Fort William. I'd highly recommend them and the price was very reasonable compared to any other alternative I managed to find.
As for the GGW, it offers stunning scenery all the way. We were towing a 9 month old child so we weren't looking for too difficult terrain but I think the end nearer Inverness does offer a bit of a challenge (we'd taken the road to the south of L. Ness at this point).
Dr Bakes, thanks, I did check that one out, but it appears he has suspended his services due to fuel costs etc 🙁
Ah, shame, but understandable as it was pretty cheap compared to the other company (Highland Transport Services) I got a quote from.
We were actually needing transport for ourselves (rather than just luggage) back to our car at Fort Bill, and the other options I was considering were catching a bus back and driving to Inverness to get the family, or hiring a car for all of us one-way from Inverness. Our situation was also trickier because we had my young son as well as two bikes and his trailer. Hope you manage to find a solution......
