I made a big mistake of sitting in a F430 spider at a dealers and I suddenly felt that my life was a failure because I knew I would never own one.
I am very jealous you had one for four days even though I do think that if it was my own £100k+ going on a car I would get something else.

I had a f360 for a weekend which included a track training session, so i could actually stretch its legs a bit!! and I will never forget the noise that they make. that roar just above your left ear

I feel your pain

(had a proper manual gear shift in the one i had and i have to say it was / is the worst gearbox i have ever used)

Seen a Ferrari 360 softtop parked at Ladybower with a strap on bike rack fitted. Was getting a few raised eyebrows.

Not when someone posts a video of themselves ragging around a residential area and saying 'I nearly lost it then' etc.

Not cool in any way.

Substitute the OP for some scallies in an Impreza or whatever and see how impressed everyone is then. 🙄

Hardly 'ragging ' it. Firstly, in the 'built up' area with houses ( either side of the bridge ) i would guesstimate he's doing about 30-40 so hardly 'ragging' it. The only time he gives it some is in a clearly sited tunnel with no traffic coming and NO parked cars. After accelerating to hear the noise he clearly slows right down again. The only thing was the pedestrian on the side of the road at the tunnel but then although he 'nearly lost it', i'm sure the marrinetto setting was on full so although it would give some slip the engine would reign in anything going remotely sideways.

These 'scallies' aren't in an impreza and giving your view your suggesting evweryone driving impreza's or evo's are dangerous drivers who speed everywhere.

Think daisy duke is right, some people cant be happy. think the OP should post himself driving around doing 20 in a 30 in a everyday car, cos that would be fun to watch

I can't imagine why driving a piece of engineering mastery would make you feel a prat. But then I do feel sorry for people who worry about what other people think of them to that extent, so not surprising.

Ruddy 'ell - as radoggair said above, he's hardly ragging-it!!

Lucky if he gets it above 40! Looks like he's revving it to hear the sound under the bridge.

It is probable that for the rest of the four days not shown in that 30 second clip he went somewhere else.

He was going no faster than any other car would be in that area and would probably stop a hell of a lot quicker than any other car too if he did need to stand on the brakes.

Stop looking for arguments you fools!

yeah, station Rd, Crown lane

Never mind the safety angle - there are so many better roads around there to open that up. Going up Chorley Old Road or going over Anglezarke would have been more fun.

I hope you took the short trip from Horwich to Manc Airport to take a trip through tunnels under the runway at some point in the 4 days.

or maybe a blat up the A682 to Settle (you dont have to drive fast to enjoy that road, i took an elise hire car i had last Feb up that and was stuck behind a line of traffic bumbling along at 40ish, but still was enjoyable with the roof down in the countryside listening to the engine on a sunny day)

blimey, some people can tell what someone did for 4 days with a car, from a 30sec clip!

Why is it that people get all funny about cars like this ? I have a 911 but I'm not totally sure that means i have a very small c0ck. I means i have a 911 which i bought because i a)could and b)always wanted to have one. So what. I always laugh as its very marmite, people get all arsey about it with me but to be honest I bought my 911 and my van for less than the family station wagon i was looking at. So they can all get ****d because I don't really care a toss what they think about it.

And a f430 would be lovely to drive. On a track !

It's hardly built up on that section of road. There's a few houses on each side. Personally I'd have gone up the hill and then taken the road to Adlington, bigger bridge and less houses.

Lucky bugger though.

radoggair, good observation skills, you have hit the nail on the head on several points, I did do a reccy drive before as well so it was safe, did not go too fast and all your comments are correct.

People like grunty and jupiter seem to have sand in their vagina and love moaning about anything, probably in the PC brigade as well, its a shame because these type of people would also "diss" Wiggins for not getting a podium place in the TdF et al.

Im a honest hardworking salesmen who sells an industrial (boring) product which is manufactured here in UK and have worked my nuts of in this recession to keep a factory of people in work so my boss hired it for me for a "long weekend" 4 days as a big thank you, from Friday am till Monday am. Im not bragging just telling and showing people who like this sort of thing, im proud of my efforts, the weekend will never be forgotten.

I did also drive it very quick in other places where the "conditions" allowed it. Went over loads of nice roads near the Trough of Bowland, Rivvy, Anglezare etc and did find some long tunnels. I enjoyed every second as it is an engineering masterpiece. I thankyou. 😛 😛

I drive an MG midget, does that make me a donkey?

Given my own money, don't think I'd buy a ferrari, or even any 'super' car, probably get something ridiculously lightweight with a silly engine, maybe one of the variations on the JP fury or riot (the JP-15 is currently topping my list of cars I can't go near the showroom with my debit card). And something comfortably fast for everyday like a rangerover.

Best mate has a 599 gtb (which is insane), but as his order was late, ferrari loaned him a 430 spider for a month - we took many trips down the queensway tunnel in Birmingham. Amazing how abuse you get just sat at the lights doing nothing!! But then we are only 28, so looked liked we'd stolen it.

Never had any problems with other people when I had my TVR, as most recognised it as being British (can't say the same for police or the engine though!!!). Suspect you'd get the same +ve response in an Aston. Porsche, Ferrari etc seem to be a different matter though, as if you've been a traitor by buying non-British.
Didn't have too many problems with my M3 when I had it as I guess not "exotic" enough. Heard plenty of horror stories from friends with Porsches, Ferraris etc though.

I hope you took the short trip from Horwich to Manc Airport to take a trip through tunnels under the runway at some point in the 4 days.

I used to work as editor on a magazine for Aston Martin. Being a northern boy, we'd often pick up demo vehicles from their Wilmslow dealership to road test and photograph. Some of my happiest memories are accelarating through second and third gears up to 120mph through those tunnels, windows down, 500bhp V12 singing like a banshee, and me and the photographer squealing like school boys.

I guess you've either got petrol in your veins and you haven't.

Love the F430 Kingkong, never got to drive one though I did have a 360 Modena for a weekend. I'll never forget turning off a dual carriage way, blipping the throttle and stepping it out a little bit, and 2 young lads walking home from work stopped and made "we're not worthy" homage gestures and clapped. And driving past schools, and kids not old enough to understand the finer details of a mid-engined 400bhp V8 would stand agog, as we drove past, whilst their mums tried to usher them into their people swallowers.

Which just goes to show, it doesn't matter how old or how knowledgeable you are, until the cynicism and jealousy sets in, there are few things more beautiful than a Rosso Corsa V8 Ferrari.

Nice car! I've never driven anything quite as exotic.

When I saw the video I thought, "That's Horwich" ....then I noticed the caption.

blipping the throttle and stepping it out a little bit, and 2 young lads walking home from work stopped and made "we're not worthy" homage gestures and clapped

Personally, I'd be less interested by what other people thought, but I take your point.

Although I'd like to drive a Ferrari, I'd probably be more keen to have a go at one of these:
[img] [/img] although it would probably be less of a shock to the system than when I was given a go on a Fireblade a few weeks after passing my test 😉

Nice,

Had a go in a 355 a few years back. Autocar have a feature this week about used 355 vs a new Lotus Exige - £30-£35k gets you a nice 355 nowadays, still too much for me but very reasonable considering that a new 458 will be the thick end of £200k, and the usable performance on public roads won't be that different.

That was one of the 2 things that got tiresome after driving one for 3 days and about 1000 miles: people gawping or squinting through the glass to see if it was a footballer driving.

The other thing - that lovely V8 that sounds so divine as it climbs up through the rev range really gets on your thruppenny bits after an hour on the motorway at a steady 3500rpm.

While I have zero time for idiots driving cars dangerously and I fail to get over excited about fast cars, I have to say that critism of him "ragging it" are a bit ott. The road is open, 40mph limit soon becoming 60 (if it's where I think it is) and he's probably not really going much more than 30. He blips the throttle under the bridge but that's about it. He did say he "nearly lost it", but this is a bit over exaggerated as you can see from the clip and shows how careful he is being (as you would be with such an expensive car on loan!).
At best, I can moan about how anti-social the noise is and how much petrol you are wasting. Shame on you young man!

well done to the op for working hard and earning what he and many people consider to be a very nice treat. Certainly doesn't look like he was 'ragging it' to me.

The reaction of the fun police on here is just typical stw

Funny that. I've driven one on a track day and while it clearly had masses of guts on the straights, my initial thoughts on getting into it was 'oh, it's a fiat'. It's innards were seriously disappointing, very low quality. We drove back home in my wife's Audi and while it was 250bhp short of the 360, it was 4 times better put together.
