I bought a GoPro from here and then one of the GoPro recommended memory cards. I tried a quick video around the house but the camera stopped recording after a few 10 seconds, tried another and the same happened again.

Few places online suggested reformatting the card to solve the problem, tried this and now it appears to have broken the memory card. Just says SD ERROR and not won't format the card or recognise it any of my other devices.

Any other GoPro users experienced anything similar?

Remove battery and hold on button for 10 secs. Replace battery and switch on.

Format card on a PC/Mac.

Where did you get the SD card from? Lot of poor quality fakes on ebay

Which GoPro? What recording mode?
What card did you go for (brand and class?)

I got a fake/faulty card from Amazon! 😡

It arrived in generic packaging, despite being described as a new, un-opened Sandisk. It refused to be formatted. I complained, and the replacement came in a Sandisk blister pack and has worked fine ever since.

Amazon is getting as bad as ebay for fakes IMHO.

(Oh, and just to be sure: Check that you haven't disturbed the 'write only' slider on the side - sometimes you can slide them to write only when inserting them into a slot. DAMHIK )

Make sure the card is 'fast' enough for the camera, i.e. what class it is. We used to have a Panasonic point'n'shoot that would stop recording HD video after about 20 seconds, turned out that it couldn't write to the card fast enough. I seem to recall that it used its internal memory as much as possible to buffer it, and then stopped. A faster SD card sorted out the problem.
