I got myself a GoPro Hero 7 to mount on the road bike after a few dodgy passes. It works well apart from the battery life. Should really have paid more attention to that aspect. I could attach a powerbank to extend the battery life but I lose the waterproof aspect. Swapping batteries mid ride is an option but a pain. A company called digipower do a battery with 9 hour life that encases the whole unit and keeps it waterproof. That would allow me to get lost many times without running out but it is only available in the US. Does anyone know of a simple cost effective solution? There are some more basic looking Chinese extended batteries with a waterproof case that may or may not be available through places like AliExpress but I think they have a reputation for overheating so reluctant to try that. Rides tend to be around the 5 hour mark.

I have a GoPro for similar reasons and the battery life is pretty poor on constant usage. I got a little more battery life out of mine by turning off the front / rear facing camera and dropping the quality down. Apart from that I think the only option is to carry extra batteries. They are so expensive I wouldn't really want go to sticking on third party batteries.

Like you I have disabled unnecessary features which do eke out the life a bit. I have the same concern also, don't want to destroy what is a fairly expensive piece of kit by clamping a cheap battery to it.

I'm confused about the objective, are you planning to film 9 hours of road riding?

No, no plans to record 9 hours on the road. With a 90 minute battery, if someone does a scary pass after 30 minutes I have some evidence but currently if it happens after 2 hours no evidence because the battery is flat. No desire to review the ride, just purely to show when someone is driving like an eejit. Possibly report to police or track them down to wee in their shoes.

sounds like you need a traffic cam and run it off a USB pack on the bike.
Lots of the bigger battery light units have a usb port for charging phones, no reason it wouldn't run the go pro, won't be waterproof though.
