Saw the van with its funny periscope camera thing come down our street so when it goes up there should be me in my window smiling and waving.

This is gonna cost me hours! Just managed to find our old house in Southampton and stood outside the Hub Cycleworks! Quite a scary bit of technology, really.

Just been to Paris, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Sadly no Athens yet.

Anyone found a list of countries and cities covered?

Don't know about a list, but if you go to a whole world view and then drag the little orange man it'll highlight the places where streetview is available

I've just found WCA's car! They fuzz all the number plates out. How they do that?

its pretty easy to detect a numberplate/face and then blur the region - i wrote a program to do it at uni!

i'm going to waste ages...

They don't seem to have got all the registration plates, though: that Boxter's plate is fairly legible... and faces don't seem to have been completely obscured either.

Great stuff though: loving it so far!

Big cheesey wave to the camera from me today right outside my house, so when there's an update you'll see my ugly mug!

But that is amazing though!

That's a better view - I only found mine as that part of Bristol is an "interesting" bit of town with "stuff" going on at all hours!

Damn, it's not compatible with my iPhone's browser. Bugger. Still, not too surprised, have to dig out the Powerbook and stop being a lazy git.

it seems they've started to take down pictures like the one above

Street view would be so much better if it was LIVE 😯

They were in Fort William today. The one day in the year when the sun was shining. What luck.

Am I wrong to hate the pundits 2 minutes in on this video at the bottom of the report?

No you're not wrong. I'd say you are exactly right, cos that self-importnat **** smoking badly clearly thinks he is too cool for school, and as such is a detestable tit.

But what was the big-chinned one wearing on his head? Looked a bit like the bonnet thing Kelly McGillis wears in Witness...

there a piece on Timesonline about the technology failing to obscure faces and number plates.

you can clearly see the guys plate on Brick Lane. having a crafty joint?

how do you link photos from the view?

I can see this opening a can of worms. Think the media will create a storm over this somehow.

First came across it in San Francisco, helped us find our rental van down some side street.

Can't get to worked up about privacy stuff. My name is on the electoral register and anyone can wander down and look etc if they can be bothered....
