In the couple of dealings I've had, Leslie Deans has been OK.
Charles White are great, have rented several times from them since 1996 and with them currently. Dove DAvies are OK too, avoid Trinity Factors like the plague.
We have solicitors not est agents.
IF you are selling, I've had good experience of ELP. location is irrelevant imo, it's all done with ESPC.

@al - Yeah, I know, but it's for selling property, so "recommend a good solicitor" would have attracted many irrelevant responses. That's the 2nd recommendation I've had for ELP. My location requirement is that I'm not going to be around for viewing, and it seemed that someone local would be handier/cheaper?
I've heard mov8 are the cheapest. No idea if they are any good. We are currently about to put our flat on the market via Umega. No idea how things will pan out, but they seem ok so far.
Folk handling viewings are not solicitors' staff, so the office address may be irrelevant. IIRC ELP charged me £10 or £20 for it, they use retired folk I think or those who need a bit of pocket money.
I'd choose a firm on their schedules, phone response etc rather than location - look at a few schedules in ESPC, call them about viewing and see if they are helpful (I have had a shocking response from some!). Maybe see who does 3d walk-arounds etc? IMO that's the stuff that matters, they don't have to do much more bar produce a few certificates etc.
Also check fees. I've used VMH in the past to buy, they were fine.

I've always used Lints on Leith Walk (Crichton Place I think). John Lints is a really great guy to deal with and so organised he was always one step ahead of what needed done.

Not sure how they compare fee wise but they were worth every penny.
As i texted - Went with ELP on Al's recommendation and they were good. Admittedly, buying.
By good i mean, there was no hassle, they said what they were going to do and did it when they said they would.
Not expensive, attentive, patient, informal when required and formal when required.
