Arise sir Andy!

For services to cheerful demeanor no doubt

And Sir Ken Dodd for services to comedic accounting.

Jolly good. 🙂

Assuming sir dresses to the left.

Tim was a nearly man who only ever performed at Wimbers.

Andy is a step up, in possibly the greatest ever era of men's tennis.

I like Ken Dodd.

Other than that, I have no idea what you're on about..... 😀

People should not be made sir just because they are good at sport. Just shows how silly the honours system is. Maybe he'll knock it back like the watchdog woman and the Hillsborough campaigner have.

Nah - any knockbacks will have already happened.

Apart from Andy Murray (because no other British has gone to that level) and Hyacinth Bucket (the character that makes me laugh) I don't really know what the rest have achieved ... Who are they? Who are they?

I think all the reality stars from Geordie Shore deserve a Knighthood or a Dame-hood don't you think so?

Even Andy himself previously thought he was too young for a knighthood and I'm inclined to agree. Should have waited at least till his retirement IMO.

Lords, Ladies, Dames and Sirs... Surely the majority of us have grown past this eliteist nonsense. As for the 'E' for Empire in OBE and MBE, dangerously dated - the kind of rubbish that leads to the delusions of Farage and his group of loons.

What a load of shite this list is.

She's being honoured for her fashion work, which is actually really rather good. Her studio is in London and there's quite a lot of investment in the UK.

Does her brand even make money? Rumours of bail-outs from her other half etc.

Didn't realise people got awards for having a hobby.

It really isn't. It's a branding exercise with some (not very well paid) junior designers doing all the work and her coming in a whirlwind in messing it up then the real (i.e. qualified, experienced and talented) designers putting it back together again once she has left the building.

It's a play thing and she is a mouthpiece/ marketing opportunity for others.

Not my view but the view of someone who worked there.

I think some people might be taking the award system a bit too seriously.

Ultimately it is a politician who decides who is awarded what, and that decision is heavily coloured by their own personal agendas.

Remember that brutal Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceau?escu was awarded a knighthood by the Queen, as was Robert Mugabe. Even the founder of facism, Benito Mussolini, was awarded a knighthood.

Did Ken Dodd get his for:

a) Tax evasion?
b) Still being alive?
c) Being an entertainer from the 70s who wasn't a danger to children?

You expect her to be on the honours list for wearing a short dress on Countdown?

But with Brexit we're getting the Empire back. Farage said so.

Victoria Beckham. When shopping for wedding outfits for Mrs B we where impressed with her line and trust me I was very cynical and regarded a footballer's wife's brand as a negative. She's done a good job.

If you ignore the media's self fulfilling celebrity fixation, there's several hundred people on the honours list who have got them for years of public service and community activities, for achieving things that have never been done before, for teaching and inspiring others.

It's dated, it's traditional, it may grate a bit with all the "right on" crowd, but there's far worse shit going on to worry about than this.

Maybe he got it for never being convicted of tax evasion?
...or anything else.

Maybe Ken's was for contributing to the death of classic Who and this year's honours were drawn up by Michael Grade.

p.s. Worst... episode... ever

Or maybe in a world which is becoming less egalitarian, meritocratic and where truth is a poor substitute for spin - it's exactly one of the things to be concerned about.
