Today is Celebration Day at work.

We've a day packed with recognising our achievements over the last year. And the dress theme is 'Bring the bling.'

AND, there's no alcohol included.

I must try to stay positive.

‘Bring the bling.’

Obvious solution:

What's with the Bintang singlet?

"Oh sorry, I thought you said bring the Bin"

After an hour delay due to a fire (!) the very first slide had a spelling mistake.

I did my best not to interrupt the Executive Director and tell him...but I think everyone knows that I was sorely tempted.

Problem solved.

You have my deepest sympathy. Toes cannot curl enough during events like this.

A place I used to work at had something similar. I won an award for some project we were working on. I'm not sure what was worse, being "called onto the stage to make a short speech" or my prize. That prize was having a corridor named after me.

I promise you I am not kidding. It may still be there. It was in our US head office just round the corner from the "parking structure". They gave me a framed photo of it (I never got to visit it). I may still have it somewhere.

Thoughts and prayers.

I once refused to join in one of these events when I was told my role in the after party was to dress up as Boy George and mime Karma Chameleon.

So relieved I'm self employed.

Can drink as much as I like and wear anything that doesn't cause danger or gets caught in the sewing machine.

That's borderline workplace bullying 🙂

It would be if they had been *told*, although I suspect it was probably more of a 'would you be up for doing it as a bit of fun'?

Turned out the fire was something to do with the air conditioning on the ground floor. Guess where our celebration day was?

It reached 36 degrees outside today. Not quite as hot indoors of course but I still sat sweating, surrounded by menopausal women in tiaras fanning themselves. One guy wore a massive golden star suit (I can't even think of how to describe it).

At the end of the proceedings one of the directors said we could all go for wine at the office cafe at 3.30. Then she remembered it is Thursday and the cafe only stays open late on Friday. Summed it up nicely.

Sadly not it was "Leigh 107-A-14' or something. Sounds like a generic droid from Star Wars 🙂  It had to follow the naming convention that apparently nobody understood. The standing advice for working in the HQ building in Indy was "take sandwiches" as you're sure to be lost for a good few hours.

I reckon the pic is still in the loft. I'm not sure I can justify the time to find it tho.

I was quite prepared to quit if they'd tried to make me do it. Pretty sure it's one of the reasons I wasn't taken on by our senior managers when they formed their own company after we were made redundant after a takeover.

Try and see how close you can walk that fine line between sarcasm and a trip to HR

I was reminiscing with my better half about this (she worked there at the time as well) and apparently I also received a plastic pyramid thing which I assume - because I was even more childish then - I use to leave on peoples chairs in the hope they'd sit on it 🙂

She also reminded me I was only awarded SECOND prize. I honestly don't know if first prize meant a corridor closer to the data centre,, or something actually usable (and probably not pyramid shaped), but sadly I've sent that memory request down to the deep archive and nothing has come back 🙂

More useful than a work prize I got. It was an actual big glass trophy with my name on it. Was having a desk tidy out a couple of years later, just skipped it in the recycling because frankly I didn't know WTF to do with it.

I once said similar to head of HR for the Trust, wasn't enough seating at tedious event so said I'd go back to clinic and do some proper work.

It wasn't best received. Though I think she admired someone answering her back and didn't make life too miserable.
