... when cutting onions.

how can i get through the truths and the old wives tails of avoiding the stinging eyes?

obv a big dose of MTFU, but i quite often have to do 18 in one go (cooking for up to 20 people), and its a nightmare!

current cutting process is as such...

peel, leave bottom bit on (the brown rooty bit), cut top off. slice vertically down and run under water. put flat (inside) side down, chop into little bits.

thanks *sniff* in advance *wipes tears away*

Run the knife under the cold tap before cutting.

What I do, is quickly peel 'em, then cut 'em in half and then rinse them under the tap for a few seconds. Never troubled by onion gas.

For loads, maybe do the above but chuck the halves into a bowl of water.

Or use goggles. 😐

Make sure you use a very sharp knife, and that's knife as in 'knife', not 'saw' as serrated blade 'knives' should be sold as.

Get someone else to do them whilst you're out riding innit.

My mrs' sister swears by the wet knife trick. Never tried it myself, I just go in for the manly tears.

I love the smell and the tears. Saying that I also like nettle stings when out riding my bike so maybe I am broken.

i can confirm that, 1.5 onions in, dropping them in a bowl of water before hand does not work.

6.5 to go.

😥

Normally works if you remove the bottom part (20mm) of the Onion first.
